Healthy Body, Healthy Mind: Creating a multi-sensory environment ECET (North) invites passionate early childhood educators to an excing workshop offering wealth of informaon to assist in creang healthy bodies and minds in young children. The first part of our session will be led by Mario Bergamin and Deb Shegog, who will share with us the Outdoor Classroom at Youngtown Primary School. The Outdoor Classroom iniave is best described as a rich mul sen- sory learning program underpinned by a philosophy that authenc learning occurs in a variety of environments, not just the classroom. Mario is assistant principal at Youngtown Primary School and co-ordinates the Outdoor Classroom. Mario has had experience in a variety of educaonal sengs. He is very much aware of the importance of ulising the environment in children's learning. The second part of our session will be led by Mary Eckhardt, who will provide an overview of how the specific requirements of the early childhood program are praccally expressed in policy and creavely expressed in pracce in a school seng. Mary is the manager of the Move Well Eat Well - Early Childhood (MWEW-EC) Award Program and is responsible for the development and ongoing management of the program state-wide. Mary developed the early childhood program in 2011 in partnership with the educaon department, state diecians, Early Childhood Australia, Family Day Care Council and PCSTas. The early childhood program is offered to kindergartens (even within Move Well Eat Well member schools) long day care and family day care schemes. The program incorporates healthy eang and acve play criteria requirements that are age appropriate for services providing educaon and care for children 0-5 years. The Program is designed to assist ECEC services meet the Naonal Quality Standards around Health and Wellbeing within an Early Years Learning framework. Member services receive an MWEW-EC Starter Pack, resource kit and access to the Early Childhood secon of the Move Well Eat Well website. There are also templates to assist with policy alignment of the early childhood program to an exisng primary school policy.
