From the Principal’s Desk CARING FOR OUR ENVIRONMENT Please see the flyer attached “Recycle your Clothing with Mondo”. This is an initiative being organised at our school by OSHClub. We hope everyone can be involved in recycling their unwanted clothing, shoes and linen and we can contribute to sustainability in our world. Bring to school (in a bag) on 27 August.
FOUNDATION Please enrol asap if you are planning to send your child to Heany Park in Foundation/Prep 2020. If you know of any other families intending to enrol please can you urge them to do so soon.
YEARS 1 TO 6 If you are not planning to attend Heany Park PS next year please can you let us know asap. STUDENT LEARNING –
DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES We are very pleased to start term 3 with brand new computers across the school. We now have Lenovo think pads with touch screens that convert into a tablet. We have commenced a new three year lease. The Digital Technology Captains, Samuel and Liam, collaborated with the students to update the Essential Agreement to ensure this resource is
cared for. Please see this agreement attached. EXHIBITION
Do you remember last year’s Exhibition? Many students excelled all expectations in our very first Exhibition. The Senior School students have commenced preparation for our 2019 Exhibition unit under the Transdisciplinary Theme ' Sharing the Planet.' An important part of this process is for students to be matched up with a mentor who provides advice about their chosen investigation and guidance along the way. We would love to have any parents/ grandparents from any year level, who are keen to be part
of the Exhibition experience. Could you be a mentor and are you available at any of these times to come to school at least once per week?
Monday from 9.00 - 9.30am
Monday 2.30pm
Friday 9.00 – 9:30am Please either contact the office on 97645533, Kym Ryan or myself if you think you can help us in this area. Please note that mentors will work with a student group not involving a family member.
PERFORMING ARTS – AFRICAN DRUMMING The Senior students were very engaged in their drumming experience yesterday. The music echoed across the school as they learnt how music comes from the natural rhythm of the heart.

Junior school students are also learning about the transdisciplinary theme – Sharing the Planet. Their central idea is ‘Living things go through a process of change’. The whole school is very interested in the Junior school work. Look at the change in the eggs in just two days!
FOUNDATION STUDENTS 100 DAYS OF SCHOOL CELEBRATION
On 31 July our Foundation students completed their 100th day of school. This milestone was celebrated with a special pyjama breakfast. Thank you to all the parents who helped with this special event. There has been a lot of learning about place value in Maths whilst counting the days throughout the year!
STAFF TRAINING – FIRST AID
You may wonder what Mr Taylor is doing? He was being a difficult patient in our first aid training, giving Mr Stanton a tricky time. On Tuesday staff all participated in First aid training and refreshed our anaphylaxis training.
PROGRESSIVE REPORTING ON COMPASS
Your child’s progressive report on learning undertaken in the last unit of inquiry (i.e. third this year), including writing and maths was released last Friday. We hope you are finding the change to progressive reporting informative and useful. If you have any questions or concerns please speak with your child’s teacher.

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge
Just a reminder that the Reading Challenge at Heany Park ends for this year on Friday August 23rd 2019. There is still plenty of time to finish reading your books and to enter them online on the Reading Challenge website. All books need to be entered online by Friday August 23rd 2019. This will give me two weeks then to chase up any last minute books. Certificates, for those students who have completed the challenge will be handed out in Term 4.
Congratulations to the students who have already finished. Good luck and happy reading, Michelle and Ms V.
