1 Kings 8:61 "Let your heart therefore be wholly devoted to the LORD our God, to walk in His statutes and to keep His commandments, as at this day."
I love to ski which makes winter my most favorite season, but Autumn comes in a close second. Nothing like a touch of chill in the air, a little color in the trees, and some good apple cider. It makes for really good football weather, and we love the Friday night lights as John, Bayley, Connor, John Tyler, and Tristan take the field. Many of us bleed orange, sport a little black and gold, thunder like a herd or simply roll with the tide. Others Titan up and watch for a Music City Miracle. Each of us have our own game day rituals, and we know what it means to support our team with all of our heart.
While we watch and enjoy football, and we are entertained by spectacular catches and runs – we have to sit on the sidelines. Today I want us to open our hearts in prayer for a team that does not sideline us. The Lord’s team is open to all, and He cheers for us with more fervency than we can ever offer in return. The Lord’s team is made up of baptized believers from all backgrounds, nationalities and with a heart that beats as one. I am begging you to pray for a heart of passion for His word and for this Church. I am praying for united hearts working together with a zeal that cannot be broken.
If we allow Satan to steal our passion, then we are giving him a crack at our heart. God’s team members will exemplify the type of heart described in His word. He calls us to have hearts that are grateful, forgiving and cheerful. A grateful heart will long to follow His will and strive to be obedient to His word at all times. A forgiving heart will always be the first to forgive and not hold a grudge. A cheerful heart will try to find the joy in everything. James 1:2 “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials.”
Just like any team, God’s team requires a heart that is dedicated to these three characteristics. I pray for grateful, cheerful and forgiving hearts as we enter the new day for Southern Hills.
