Heart-warming
Swedish design
Some things never change, not even
in a thousand years. The ability of a
crackling log fire to set the mood and
create an atmosphere is one of them.
So make your dreams come true.
Feel the warmth. Let Contura breathe
more life into your home.
As the premier stove manufacturer in Sweden, we at Nibe Brasvârme are committed to Swan marking our stoves.
We are proud of the fact that our stoves meet strict requirements of Swan marking. The standards are worked out in consul-tation with experts from business, environ-mental organisations and the authorities. Choosing to Swan mark our products is one aspect of our vision to be a company of the future with equally high quality stan-dards regarding the environment.
Essentially all consumption affects the environment. There are, however, some products that affect the environment less than others. These products are Swan marked. A Swan marked product is always a step towards a better environment, at the same time the purchase gives you high quality and excellent function.

Working daily amid such surroundings with one of
the four elements – fire – has a profound influence
on our attitude to wood-burning stoves.
Efficiency is only one criterion. Our stoves must also
be manufactured with the greatest concern for both
quality and the environment. And they must add
beauty to your home. But tastes and preferences
vary, so our product development work is inspired

good heating economy. So we have made comfort,
quality and good design the common denominators
in all our work. As such, the Contura series is our
interpretation of the diverse demands of the twenty-
first century.

Subtle curves lend the Contura 450/450T
a contemporary elegance. Generous
expanses of glass on the front and the
sides make the blazing logs a focus of
attention in any room, and the efficient
performance guarantees a reliable source
of heat even in the event of a power failure.
Only the best is good enough. That´s why the door frame on
the 450 series is made of sturdy cast iron - and with glass on
three sides, the fire inside casts a cosy, heartwarming glow
throughout the room.
The gently rounded stove hood conceals heat-retaining blocks
that continue to spread warm air long after the last embers
have faded. In the Contura 450T heatretaining soapstone
forms part of the hood itself. Soapstone is a 100% natural
material with unique patterning that brings individuality and
exclusivity to each and every stove. The Contura 450 series
incorporates the very latest technology in combustion and
heat retention, making it the perfect choice for everyone who
appreciates classic design and technical innovation.

elegantly designed.
Contura 480 – a soapstone stove with a
truly distinctive design.
Contura 480 warms both

Contura 480 brings contemporary styling to traditional
wood-burning stoves. Its gently rounded lines and
elegant design add character to any room.
Soapstone is a 100% natural material that combines
good looks and a truly individual finish with outstand-
ing heat-retaining properties. In addition to a soap-
stone surround, the Contura 480 incorporates extra
blocks of olivine which continue to spread a gentle
heat hours after the fire has burned out.
The Contura 480 is equipped with the same tried and
tested fire-box as other stoves in the Contura 400
series, with generously proportioned panels of glass
on three sides so that everyone in the room can enjoy
the heart-warming glow.
The striking design of the convector grille on the stove
top not only enhances the distinctive appearance of

Subtly rounded lines are the hallmark of the Contura

Contura 520T is a modern soapstone stove that
warms via its beautiful design even before the fire
is lit. And despite the elegant impression, Contura
520T has 120 kg of soapstone to be proud of.
Soapstone has good heat retaining properties,
which means that the stove also continues to emit
heat long after the fire has gone out. The individual
grain of the soapstone also gives the stove a unique
and warm design.
Contura 520T is equipped with the same practi-
cal and well-liked firebox as other stoves in the
Contura 500 range. This means that Contura 520T
burns cleanly and efficiently while maintaining low
emission quantities through the entire output range.
Therefore, Contura 520T is also P marked by the
Swedish National Testing and Research Institute.
Contura 520T has the same fire box as the test winner

Ceramic glass in the door and side-
lights spreads the flickering
firelight from the generously
proportioned firebox to bathe the
room in a relaxing sensation of
heat and light.
All Contura 500 models have two pipes that pass
through the top section of the firebox. These cool the
hot fumes at the same time as they heat the ambient
air in the room. Cool air from the room is sucked up
at the back of the heater to be subsequently relea-
sed through the top vent at a temperature of around
150°C. That’s what we call efficiency! Read more
about the technique on page 44.

round. The result is a durable
stove with the right attitude.
Contura 550A has brushed aluminium sides and top.
This, together with the steel top, gives the stove an
elegant impression. As an option, the stove is avail-
able with a drawer, aluminium base or base in the

Brushed aluminium is an exciting material that reflects
the character of the room and also introduces some-
thing new. In this way, the new Contura 550A blends
into all environments at the same time as it stands
out.
Contura 550A, like most of the other stoves in the
Contura 500 and 600 range, can be equipped with a
fan, which quickly distributes the heat and tempera-
ture throughout the house.

“It has the right feel about it.”
Emotional arguments weigh heavy
for the Contura 570. Few stoves
leave such a lasting impression on
people as this.
Glass will always be intimately associated with fire
and heat. At the dawn of time it was created natu-
rally by lightning strikes and volcanic eruptions.
Humans unravelled the mysteries of glass-making
around 3,000 BC when quartz sand and sodium
carbonate fused by chance in a red-hot furnace.
Then Phoenician traders sailed the Mediterranean
and shared their secret. Today, we have taken deve-
lopment a stage further with an entire stove clad in
glass.
Glass reflects the unique nuances in a room to
create a stove that blends effortlessly into every
environment. The Contura 570 is available in a
choice of steel grey or black, with a chic, under-
stated elegance that will appeal to your
emotions as no other stove has ever done.

burning stove adds that little extra
touch that imbues a room with a
personality all of its own.
A flickering fire is the warm heart of a home. But it’s
also a dependable source of heat – not least when
bitterly cold weather and heavy falls of snow wreak
havoc with electricity supplies.
The Contura 660T is clad in soapstone. The excel-
lent heat-retention properties of this 100% natural
material ensure that your stove continues to spread
gentle heat long after the fire itself has burned out.
And the stone’s natural striations and subtle differ-
ences in shade mean that every stove is unique.

CONTURA 660K660K
The Contura 660 is the ideal
solution for modern living.
Compact, easy to install and a
beautiful addition to the home.
The extra large, curved glass door makes a blazing
fire the focal point in any room. The stove is highly
efficient no matter whether it is placed in a corner
or against a wall as on the previous page.
There is no need for a masonry chimney. The
Contura 660 can be fitted to a lightweight modular
flue system that leads smoke and fumes directly
out via the roof.
The 660K is finished in specially manufactured tiles
in a matt sand-coloured glaze – a beautiful material
that brings a sensation of Nordic light to your home.
High-gloss, ivory-coloured tiles are also available.

There is nothing like a real fire.
That may be why a stove is so
high on many people’s wish list.
Furnishing that heats and lasts.
Year after year.
Contura 670 is a little wider at the rear and is there-
fore best placed against a wall.
The stove’s convection system heats the air to
nearly 150 degrees, but at the same time cools the
rear side of the stove, which makes it possible to
place the stove near a combustible wall.
In new build, tight, well insulated houses with
mechanical ventilation systems it is an advantage
to connect a duct for combustion air directly to the
stove. The Contura 600 range is prepared for this.

controllability.
Contura 685 is available in grey and black
with various top and shelf options.
Contura 685 is the stove of choice
and can be free-standing or posi-
tioned against walls. Regardless
of choice, Contura 685 with side
lights is the natural centre piece of
the room.
Contura 685 is the pillar of the Contura 600 series
and tastefully accents all homes. The newly intro-
duced side lights enable the fire to be seen more
clearly. They aid in distributing the light from the fire to
a larger proportion of the room than before.
As with other stoves in the Contura 600 series,
Contura 685 is P marked by the Swedish National
Testing and Research Institute. This means that
Contura 685 fulfils requirements that are considerably
more stringent than the European regulations.
Contura 685 can be equipped with many different
accessories. Replaceable tops and shelves for
maximum freedom of choice. Contura’s unique
turntable , enabling the stove to be rotated is suitable
for the Contura 685. Contura 685 is available in grey

Certain stoves spread a warm
sensation simply by standing
there. Like the Contura 690,
for example.
The gentle curves and attractive styling of the
Contura 690 bid you a warm welcome into the
room, whether or not a fire is lit. But it’s when the
flames begin to flicker that it really comes into its
own.
The design echoes that of the other 600 series
stoves, with an extra large, slightly bowed glass
door that is kept free from unsightly soot deposits
by a constant flow of heated air. And heat-retaining
olivine blocks spread a pleasant warmth even after
the fire has burned out.
The Contura 690 meets the highest demands for
comfort and function. It is available with a convector
fascia or a handy oven unit, a log store below the
firebox and a deep or shallow niche above.
The choice is yours.

12 PROPERTIES YOUR WOOD STOVE NEEDS
In order to resist the temperature strains that arise, the door must be made from shape-retaining cast iron. This minimises the risk of leaks from the hatch, which in turn may result in the stove burning less efficiently and the glass getting sooty.
Most efficient in testThe Contura 550 was named the most efficient stove in Råd & Rön’s large-scale wood stove test no. 9, 2003. The Contura 550 had the hig-hest level of efficiency with a total of 81% and also demonstrated a good level of efficiency at low power (79%).
Swedish manufactureContura is a quality Swedish product developed and manufactured at NIBE Brasvärme’s factory in Markaryd, Småland, Sweden. This guaran-tees you, as a purchaser, quality, safety and good service. All Contura wood stoves come with a five-year guarantee.
Clean Glass TechnologyThe combustion air is heated and supplied via air flushing of the glass areas, thus reducing the risk of the glass areas becoming covered with soot. This in turn ensures that the fire is always visible in the room.
Powerful convectionAll Contura wood stoves are equipped with an efficient convection system, which means that full power can be obtained from the stove’s hot air release only a few minutes after the stove has been lit.
Swan markContura is certified in accordance with SIS Miljö-märkning AB’s quality mark – the Swan. In order to obtain Swan certification, the stoves are tested and they must meet very stringent quality and functional requirements. They have, for instance, very low emissions of toxic and environmentally-hazardous gases and particles.
P Mark Contura is certified in accordance with the P mark, the quality mark of SP, the Technical Re-search Institute of Sweden. Therefore, Contura stoves meet requirements that are very stringent with regard to efficiency, safety and low emis-sions.
One-Touch-PowerAll Contura stoves are equipped with controls for exact power regulation that allow simple, precise combustion control. Controls for the door, grilles and ashbox are also easily accessible.
Practical InstructionsIncluded with every Contura stove is a DVD sho-wing real-time practical advice for lighting and loading your stove to attain best results.
FlexibleThe Contura ranges are available in a number of variants and models. Depending on the model, height, colour and various tops can be selected in order to get a customised stove.
FanMany of the wood stoves in the Contura ranges, depending on the stove range, can be equipped with a fan. With a fan fitted, the heat spreads rapidly and effectively from room to room. It is thermostat-controlled and starts automatically.
Optional extrasWood stoves in the Contura ranges, depending on the stove range, can be equipped with many practical accessories such as outdoor air con-nection, baking oven, heat shelf, sliding drawer and sheet metal or glass floor plate. There is also a turning plate that makes it possible to turn the stove when lighting the fire.

Environmentally-sound heating When you choose a Swan-marked stove, you get a heat source with a high degree of efficiency. A ‘high degree of efficiency’ means that a high proportion of the energy sto-red in the fuel is emitted as heat for the home. There are very few hazardous particles in the exhaust fumes. General energy-saving is one of the main goals of Nordic environ-mental marking.
Wood is renewable Wood is a bio-fuel like pellets and wood chips. Unlike fossil fuels, bio-fuel is renewable and does not contribute to the greenhouse effect. When there is a fire in a wood stove, the same amount of carbon dioxide is emitted as was absorbed by the growing tree. Conversely, fossil fuels come out of the earth. When they burn, the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere increases - something that contributes to the greenhouse effect.
Environmentally-friendly materialSIS Environmental Marking imposes requirements concer-ning the material in the stove. Toxic heavy metals may not be added to the plastic parts or be involved in the surface treatment of the parts of the fireplace. Nor can unneces-sary flame-retardants and chemicals be included in any plastic parts. These requirements mean that the materials can be recycled without spreading toxins.
The environmental requirements of the ‘Swan’ mark for stoves are strict, and the tests are carried out by an inde-pendent laboratory. The requirements are also updated every four years in order to keep with trends within tech-nology, research and science.

the heat and pleasure towards
where you are at that moment. So
Contura can spread heat and light
to both the dinner table and the
lounge area.

When the turntable is installed you can choose between 90°, 180° or 360° stepless rotation.
The rollers on which the turntable rests are hard wearing and functional solution to rotate the stove in a simple way.
The integrated brake can be used to adjust how easy or difficult it is to rotate the stove.

400 series
These simplified “X-ray” pictures show the
main air flow behind the heating principles in
Contura stoves.
Red arrows – Convection currentsCool air from the room is sucked in via the base of
the stove and heated as it passes through channels
in the rear of the stove and the stove’s convection
zones. It is then heated further by the hot fumes
before flowing out into the room. The fan (optional
extra) blows the air out through the vents.
Blue arrows -Primary combustion airA knob on the front of the stove controls the inflow
of combustion air and, as a result, the intensity of
the fire. The combustion air is heated to a very high
temperature and then led to flush the inside of the
glass. Contura stoves can be connected directly to
a supply of outside air.
Green arrows -Clean burning systemClosing the air intake activates the stove’s “clean
burning system”. This supplies pre-heated com-
bustion air via a system of channels and an air dif-
fuser in the back of the stove. This ensures that the
stove is never starved of oxygen, but always
burns cleanly, efficiently – and for an extra long
period of time.

skyd- dad desigCONTURA FAN
Bask in the heat from your Contura
stove. With a fan installed, the heat
spreads ef fectively and quickly from
room to room.
Contura’s fans for the 500 and 600 range kill two birds
with one stone; quicker heat distribution throughout the
house and a more even temperature throughout the
house.
The fans for Contura are simple to retrofit and fit most
of the stoves in the Contura 500 and 600 range.
The brilliant design means that the fans can also be
installed with the retained outdoor air connection. The
fan itself is neatly concealed by a base panel (optional)
in the same colour as the stove. Soapstone or tile
bases are available for use on Contura 660 and 670.
The fans for Contura are thermostatically controlled,
which means that they start automatically when the
stove is lit and switch off when the fire has gone out.
Of course there is a manual mode with output control
in fixed stages.

“P-MARKED” PRODUCTS
High temperature with low outputFor environmentally-friendly combustion you need a stove that combines a low output (down to 3 kW) with optimum combustion in the firebox. In ordinary wood-burning stoves the firebox tem-perature falls when the heat output is low: incomplete combustion releases high levels of emissions into the air. Our new technology now makes it possible to produce a low heat output while still maintaining a high combustion temperature in the firebox. This means that Contura stoves release consis-tently low levels of emissions through the entire output spectrum.
Leading the fieldToday wood is by no means an insig-nificant source of domestic heat. But, whether you use a wood-burning stove for atmosphere, out of a sense of security, or simply to reduce your hea-ting costs, it’s important that the emis-sions are clean. Our aim is to spear-head development towards ever better and more efficient stoves. We hope that, within a few years, the high criteria of the “P-mark” will have raised the standard of stoves across the entire
efficiency and safety weigh heavy among the “P-mark” criteria, the SwedishNational Testing & Research Institute also takes other aspects into consider-ation. For example, operating and maintenance instructions must be pro-duced to a high standard and be easy to understand. And product quality is frequently checked via unannounced inspections at the manufacturing plant.
A Research & Development Department that is second to none and a genuine concern for the envi-ronment shared by everyone in the company are your assurance that Contura stoves exert minimum envi-ronmental impact.
All of our stoves have boasted environmental approvalcertificates for years. Now, we are going one stage further in the quest for optimum combustion. NIBE stoves are the first in Sweden to be certified in accordance with the new “P-mark” quality criteria established by the Swedish Testing & Research Institute. That means our stoves meet much more stringent tests – for efficiency, safety and not least emissions – than those prescribed by both Swedish and EU regulations. “P-mark” certification, together with the new technology that we incorporate into our products, consoli dates our position as Europe’s pre-eminent manufacturer of wood-burning stoves. We invest substantial resources to constantly develop Contura stoves, improving combustion and increa-sing performance. The result is a product range that makes burning wood an eco-friendly, renewable, clean, and not least, economical alternative.
