Dear Parents/Carers,
It was great to have all of our students back with us last week. There were many excited voices
and lots of happy playing in the yard. Staff have commenced academic assessment and are
working hard to re-establish where students are up to and where they will head to next with
their learning. Students have started back at school happy and settled, we have been very
pleased with their quick adjustment back into school life. Student wellbeing will continue to be a
priority as we navigate our return to school in the coming weeks.
Pick up zone back to normal and car parking
Following current advice, we will resume normal pick up in our Herriot Street carpark for all
students from today, Monday 15th June. We will monitor how this routine works, if people can
move through fairly quickly after picking up their child/ren we should be able to keep this in
place from now on. Thank you for supporting the recommended change for our first week of
everyone returning to school, we appreciated your assistance.
We acknowledge that we are on the traditional lands of the Taungurung people and we pay our respects to
their Elders, past present and emerging.

Please watch out for little people in the carpark. We have had a couple of reports of some of our
younger students running unsupervised in the carpark. We recommend that F-2 parents meet
their child/ren at the brown gate/entrance and walk with them through the carpark to their car.
This will help everyone to be safe in this busy area at the end of the day.
Parents are welcome to use the Bus parking area out of designated bus times for dropping off or
picking up students. Nina has ordered some new signs which will be erected soon on the front
fence, the signs will indicate the times families can and can’t access the bus parking area. There
will also be a new sign indicating where our visitor and parent/carer carpark is. The staff carpark
is only for staff, trades people, DET regional staff and anyone who requires the Disabled car park-
ing space.
Department of Education and Training (DET) guidelines are still in place re parents/carers/
volunteers not having access to our school grounds, this means that no parents/carers can
come into the classrooms/school grounds. If there is something you can’t do over the phone or
by email with Nina or Brooke in the Office, you can come into the Office area. We appreciate you
supporting our implementation of this DET guideline, the aim is to keep everyone safe in our
school community. This restriction will be in place until we are advised otherwise by DET.
Have a great week.

This week in the F/1 Room…
In Reading we are learning about punctuation; how it helps us to read our books fluently and with more expression.
In Writing we are learning the difference between facts and opinions and how to be persuasive. We will be writing about what animal makes the best pet and what the best subject at school is.
In Maths we are learning about addition. We will be practicing adding with concrete items as well as how to count on in our head or using our fingers.
In Inquiry we are learning about prehistoric animals. This week we will be focussing on the Woolly Mammoth and the Sabre-Tooth Cat.
This week in the Grade 2 Room…
During Week 10 in Mr J’s classroom, we will be focusing on reading and writing information reports. The writing task will be related to our in-class focus learning about our Solar System. Each student will choose their own planet to research and write about. In mathematics, the Grade 2’s will revisit their addition strategies, working on simple and complex problems. To assist your child in their learning, you could look at playing fun card games where you are adding together the two numbers on the cards.
This week in the Grade 3/4 Room…
It has been so lovely to have everyone come back to school very settled, excited to see their friends and ready to learn. We have been asking for everyone to bring their reading diaries to school so that we can check how many nights the students have read and write out reading awards for assembly. Could everyone please continue to read each night and bring their reading diary to their table each morning. In Week 10 our
Respectful Relationships focus will be on ‘Achievement.’ Students will have the opportunity to discuss things they are good at and things they would like to achieve.
For Maths this week we will continue to revise the topics of multiplication, money, number and time during our Maths lessons.
In Literacy subjects we are reading family stories and writing recounts about our remote learning experience which will include dynamic verbs. In spelling and grammar subjects we will revise proper and collective nouns and start to investigate suffixes and prefixes and how they change the definition and structure of words.
Our unit on Dinosaurs will be resumed so if there are any fabulous posters and projects students will have a chance to share them this week!

This week in the Grade 5/6 Room…
During Week 10 we will be continuing to learn about the features of poetry. We have already started analysing the imagery used in poetry text and experimented with this writing strategy when writing our own poems. We will also be exploring different rhyming patterns and making personal connections with a range of different poems. We started studying the concepts of Area in mathematics tasks during home learning and will continue this study by analysing how Area is used in the designing of the floorplan of a house. We will begin designing our own house floorplans with the use of grid paper and integrating the task into Art by drawing a representation of our house.
This week in the Art Room…
It’s been a wonderful to welcome the students back to the Art room this week and we
have already made some beautiful pieces to adorn our plain walls. The junior school
has been revising some of the concepts that were outlined in the remote learning
planner but this week all students will begin a new unit on painting. Basic techniques
of using watercolour, acrylic and ink paints will be covered as well investigating
different brushstrokes, composition and mood enhancing colours. Preps/1/2 students
are learning from the best Post- Impressionist painter of the 19th century Vincent Van
Gogh. The middle school are exploring textural watercolour fish and the 5/6 are
looking at artists that create anthropomorphic animal art. Stay tuned for photos of
your children using their imagination and experimental skills!

Morton Island
Seagulls squawking viciously along the breezy beach,
The golden sand coated the land, making it glisten in the sunlight.
The transparent fish roamed the rough waters, playing a game of hide and seek.
Tall resort buildings stood tall and bright.
Inside the resort you can hear owls whoo-ing as if they were cheering.
The roaring ocean raged and crashed abusing the poor grey rocks.
Laughter of kids chimed through the rooms echoing.
The wind whistled and squealed, flying freely along the beach.
