Maths Activity 1: Multi step addition and subtraction problems

Maths Activity 3: Reflection with co-ordinates
Maths Activity 4: Translation
Maths Activity 5: Translation with co-ordinates
English Activity 1: Identify features in a description
Watch the clip - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Obr1tPd1OvE of Axel Scheffler’s Flip Flap Farm.
I chose to match up a Tiger and a Monkey to make a ‘Tigey’. Below is my example!
Read through and then look at the key at the bottom. This outlines some of the features of Year 5 writing
which I have included in the description.
Can you now look back through the description and highlight all other examples of these features using the
same colour codes?
English Activity 2: Plan a description
Use the example description as a guide and plan using the below subheadings.
What is your animal a cross between?
Habitat- Where does it live? Why? Where does it find shelter?
Appearance
Movement
Interesting facts – camouflage, whether endangered or not, it is rare or regularly seen in the wild?
Temperament (e.g. is it playful and non-threatening or aggressive and bad tempered?)
Diet
Predators
Habits
Now choose your method of planning - Spider diagrams, post its etc.
Remember - good planning leads to easier writing!
I would like you to include the following features (MAGPIE IDEAS FROM THE EXAMPLE!)
Different openers: The Tigey is/has… It lives in… This ADJECTIVE beast/creature/animal
Noun phrases: rough, scaly skin.
Relative clauses (begin with which or who and come in the middle or end of sentences)
Conjunctions (when, because, since, however, but, so, therefore, while, until)
Adverbs of possibility: maybe, possibly, perhaps, definitely
Modal verbs: might, should, will, can, may
Different punctuation: brackets (B)/dashes (D)/exclamations (E)
English Activity 3: Draft a description
Today, you are going to begin to write your character description. Take your time! Remember Mr D’s
words-
“QUALITY NOT QUANTITY!!!”
Top tips!
Use your plan! Tick things off as you use them.
Verbally create each sentence before you write it. Say it out loud to yourself or an adult. Only when
you are happy that it makes sense should you write it in your book.
Re-read every 2-3 lines to check that you are not repeating yourself and to spot errors.
English Activity 4: Complete diary extract and proof read/edit.
Proof reading is vital in order for you to hand in the best possible piece of work.
The key to reading your work back through to spot errors and make improvements is to only look at one feature at a time. Therefore, I would advise referring to the below EDITING STATIONS which we have used previously in class. Re-read your work and each time focus on ONE of the stations.
English Activity 5: My passport to Year 6
As some of you have not returned to school prior to the end of Year 5, I would like you to do something in
preparation for your transition to Year 5. By filling in the below ‘passport’ you will be able to give Mr Page
a good insight into your personality, likes and dislikes and any worries you have ahead of September.
NB- You can draw and label in the ‘Things I enjoy’ section.
Phonics/Spelling Activity 1: Correct the Spelling mistakes
Phonics/Spelling Activity 2: Ice- Cream Match Up!
Now try to use some of the words in sentences of your own.
