“For many years now snippets of verse have popped into my mind requiring immediate attention. Many were written down quickly,

bypassing my thinking mechanism, and have never needed altering.Others are my own invention, but invariably to describe an idea

in my mind ~ perhaps a query; possibly a painting.

One arrived, intact, in response to my own anger; another to help me cope with guilt. Of necessity neither is particularly lyrical, yet people

have found them helpful. The strange thing is that I’m not a poetry lover myself! But it gives me joy that spiritual insight be expressed eloquently.

To all who treasure the sacredness of what our life journey has to offer, I dedicate these children of my inner quest.”

EVENSONG

Dusk draws her veil across the skyGathering in the remnants of her day

Bird song dies in leafy canopySilence hangs her charm on darkening boughs

That cradle in their arms the sentimentsUnleashed among the careless daylight hours.

The wise man stops to ponder and considerWhat has been the tenor of his day

The weary traveller pauses on his journeyThe seeker stops to scan the way ahead

The rapt attention of the evening hourHearkens to the roll-call of the day

Happenings within each human breastAre entered in the endless Book of TimeNot a moment’s silence goes unnoticed

Each the punctuation of Day’s themeAll experience, large or small, is noted

And put to rest completed, reverenced.

The twilight hour sinks ever deeperForgiving night holds all in her embrace

Discords that rent the patient etherDiminish as the healing peace unfolds

The pendulum swings roundAnother dawning

Light fingers touch the night in fond caressSweet harmonies of yesterday are flowering

Enriching brave new pathways with their scentEvery wound has made its contribution

Reverberating echoes linger longA new page opens in life’s story

With space for us to sing a lovelier song.

Over the brink of sunset’s rim

Chartered course now bravely run

Boat gently grounds on sandy beach

Long dark night now out of reach

Lonely journey safely past

Into Love’s living arms at last.

DAYBREAK

~~~ and if you should catch the break of day
When your world has not yet wakened
When birds, once more in chorus,
Herald the dawn sky
~~~and if you hearken to the

Dew-refreshing stillness

You will find

In each new dawn a heritage

With which Day comes endowed

When hope gleams forth and

Newborn sounds and scents

Invite participation

In their livingness ~~~

Prayer For Today

Take me todayAnd help me find my way

Help me lookTeach me to see

Be with me while I pray

Let not impatienceDance my feet away

But still the inner flame of me

Until its light

Unflickering

Moves

The ocean of my soul.

LIGHT OF THE WORLD

In our silence can we hear it

In our own peace will we feel it

As we reach out will it cherish us

For it is the heart of our creation

On our paths are many stations

‘In my Father’s house are many mansions’

We must live each small experience

Understand the humblest truth

Be the patient, silent watcher

Know the strength of stalwart warrior

Find the music of our pathway

Live the knowledge in our hearts

All of this takes many lifetimes

Nurtured by life’s flowing rivers

Form and shape are part of wholeness

Reflecting all we hold within us

Structured, manifesting progress

Disciplined, harmonious and true.

The Country Beyond

When the ebb of time decreesAnd the final chords of life resound

Over the threshold step with easeInto the light of the country beyond

WINGS OF TIME

It’s a long journey from mind to soul Logic is demanding Soul is gentle, patient, wise

Mind is seeking, restless, doubting Soul is knowing, still

Soul is of the All-Knowing But not yet knowing all For it journeys on the wings of time Dipping like a hunting bird To find its food Then taking wing once more

RevitalisedClimbing Soaring

Planing on the breezeTill hunger makes him

Dip once more towardsThe hazardous earth

For the food of the questIs here on earth

And this our hunting ground But the digestion thereof is on the wing

Free-flying. Safe!Weep not when the foraging is hard

For hard-won food is precious and Not lightly thrown away Treasure every morsel

Store it wisely Use a little

Every day

Butterfly ChildrenFor all children who have been refused entry into the world

We are the butterfly childrenKissed into life by your loving

Breathing the pulse of your bodyTrusting the strength of your giving

We wanted to rest on our journeyIn the bosom of your living

And we brought our rainbow coloursAnd we thought to enrich your laughing

You thought we had nothing to offerThat our presence would silence your singing

And you crushed our wingsIn the silence of the nightTill we went on our waySighing… Crying… Dying

We are the butterfly childrenAnd you have not crushed our being

We fled from the tangled webs you spunWhen we found they had no giving

Till we found our way to another dayAnd a warm sun shiningAnd it healed our hurtsAnd it dried our tears

In the bounty of its lovingTill we grew againAnd we flew again

Laughing… Singing… Living…

Page 14: Heaven's Wings

Regrets

Regret not livingNor wish the past were dead

Experience the teacherChoice the way ahead

Mistakes can be our milestonesVisions serve as staff

If we care to use them wiselyIf we stay upon our path

But if we choose to wanderIf we walk with blindfold on

Deliberately not lookingWhose fault if we go wrong?

Make not of blame a burdenJust recognise the facts

Then go forward unencumbered…

Little boy lost?Not at all!

The Man insideWalks strong and tall.

Missed Opportunities

Too late nowTo grieve for what has gone

UndoneLet the daylight inThe darkness is sin

Sigh it awayStart another day

Page 15: Heaven's Wings

Tears

Tears are the oceans that flood the soul.

But tempests passAnd their waters joinThe everlasting rivers

Of life’s journey

Rain forests thriveOn spasmodic downpours.

But their growthIs tangled, wild.

Not so the gentle plainsOf temperate zones

Nurtured on kind Refreshing showers

Let these flow. They are the release of storm clouds and

They refresh the earth.

And you?You move with the tide of flowing water

Dwell in the peace after the stormGrow in the luscious rain-drenched earthWhich you have watered with the release

Of your emotions

14

Page 16: Heaven's Wings

Guilt

The past is pastAnd cannot be undone

It is the sameFor everyone

Now move forwardAnd fear no more

To open upAnother door.

Anger

I must be free!Let me out!Let me Be!

Don’t tell me – let me find outLet me venture on Life’s highways

Don’t stopper me withIs it safe?Is it wise?

Let me find myself in the tumultOf my emotions

Get off!Don’t suffocate me

Let me breathe the pure, clean airOf the innocence of my Source

Let me find for myselfThe rapture of

ME

I am living, vibrantBubbling with an untapped energyLet me flow with it – don’t stop it

With conventionLET ME OUT!!!I WANT TO BE

FREE

Then, into the silence of spent emotionCame a quiet voice:

“So who’s stopping you?” it said.

15

Letting Go

Go where?Go free

Go when?Go now

Go in the stillness of the morningWith the newness of the day

Go where no one else has clutteredThe space in front of you

Go into daytime market placeWith the tide of bustling life

Go willingly to eventideGo through the gate of day

Go peacefully to sleep once moreGo gladly on your way

16

Page 18: Heaven's Wings

Freedom

You have places to go

And things to know

A new world to find

Don’t be confined

To lesser aspirations

Free your soul

Let it fly to a higher goal

Let fetters fall and seek anew

Strive to find a better view

Of life, and learn its pace

Make your own its charm and grace

Breathe its clear, uncluttered air

Radiate its joy, then share

The freedom you have found

With others anchored to the ground.

The PaintingSupposing life has dealt you out a problem

Or perhaps a few of varying magnitudeThen place them boldly on your page

Make no mistake about themThere they are – you cannot paint them out

So arrange them as the basis for your paintingBig, bold shapes on which to plan your scheme

But the colours that you paint them – that is your choiceAn all the colours of the universe abound.

Would you choose the dingy shades of sorrowPetulance and boredom – or depression

Or the murky, black, uncompromising shadowsWhere despair, hate or revenge have got hold?

Is this the colour sequence you have chosenFor the heritage you plan to leave the world?

Or will you take your living paintbrush bravelyCharging it with colours that are bold

Make your picture vibrant, sure and statelyTinge the tiresome obstacles with gold?

And will you learn your palette’s secretsSo that as your skill begins to grow

You can add the gentle background washesTo create a more harmonious flow.

In every picture there are shadowsHow else would light be born?True art must learn a balance

So that the eye is drawnAway from dark and empty spaces

Giving hope to those who mightBe attracted to your paintingAnd be conscious of its light.

Other People’s Forests

When you have walked in forestsOf other men’s maturity

When your feet have kicked among the shoalsOf rich, autumnal leaves

That have fallen from their minds

When you have seen the sunlightStreaming through their branches

When you have wandered at your leisureIn the fullness of a world that others have created

It is then hard to move beyond

into the thin

pale light

of spring

and

BE

your own

young

tender

sapling.

My Baby

I will care for my babyThis inner me

I will greet her when I wakeThis inner me

I will tend her with infinite careThis inner me

When she is hurt I will cradle herWhen she is hungry I will feed her

When she is lonely I will play with herThis inner me

For my baby is the breath of the universeWhich breathes in me

She is the gift which the Father of LifeHas bestowed on me

And mine is the task to nurture herTo watch her grow

UnfetteredFree

For this I knowThis child is me.

Page 22: Heaven's Wings

I Climbed A Mountain

I was troubled

And I climbed a mountain

Pressing upward through the curling mists

That clouded vision, harbouring despair

Below, the clouds had formed my prison

Above, they were but feathered plumes of thought

Heralding the crystal-clear air

The mountain-top was just a thought’s-throw distant

And there my thoughts transported me

Who, looking thus, became at once aware

Of heights and stillness made for contemplation

Of clarity and light

Of hope and future

So far I have travelled

And I had not even left my chair.

Autumn Flight

A leaf falls from the tree of lifeOne fragment of the master plan

Has put to rest its earthly spanFloating like flotsam on the windDestined to crumble, dust to dust

While memories cling like cobweb shroudsWhich gently, like the merest sigh

Disintegrate to drifting clouds

A leaf falls from the tree of lifeOne fragment of the master plan

Has put to rest its earthly spanNo longer caged in mortal form

A liberated self is bornBorne on wings of life’s endeavourKeen eyes seeking out the future

Migrating to another dawn.

The Little Stream Of Truth

FOLLOW The little stream of truth As it winds its busy way Through the myriad

misconceptions The arrogance, the deceptions That bind the world today.

REST BY The little stream of truth When your world has gone astray

Tell it all your troubles Then feed upon its precious Living bubbles when it

Whispers in your mind as it Passes on its way.

UPHOLD The little stream of truth

Through the tangle of confusion Of misleading self-delusion That you meet upon your way For despite the chaos of the hour

The overwhelming greed for power The humble little stream of truth

Is here to stay.

Peace

Peace is a state of tranquillityThat leads to calm the soul

Like the still watersThat hold themselves in readiness

To release their powerAt the correct moment

In studied flowTo give the life-giving drop

In correct amountThe dammed-up source

So deep and stillIn inexhaustible patience.

Hey Little Flower!

Hey little flower!Tell me of your sorrow

What – none to see? Would I were like theeEvery bloom a blessing

Foliage caressingGot to die tomorrow? Then let us sharethis hour.

Weep notfor the fadedbloom of life

but in mind’s eyePreserve the freshand sparkling life.

What though the outer formmay droop and fade away?

To grow and blossom, smileand fade is to have lived today.

The world is full of flowersStill in bud

Close-folded petalsShielding

Some have dared to lookTo drop their guard

Venturing to new horizonsWithin themselves

Letting golden warmth ensureIts will be done

Few have learned to flingTheir fears aside

Exposing all the gentleThrobbing pulses

To greet the Source of LifeAnd beat as One.

Recipe For A Rose

Take a drop or two of love for your creationDew drops, nestling there like pearls aglowGreat innocence, untrammelled and unblemishedUntried in life’s eternal flow

Leave hanging in the mind’s most secret placesMaturing in the gossamer mists of timeNurture on the essences of natureDistilled into quintessences sublime

Catch the passing colours from the rainbowsAnd texture them on night-time’s velvet wingsAdd the fragrant breath of moonlight’s stillnessIn profusion, such that all creation sings

Now feed the gentle bloom with gladnessSet it in a stem of glorious prideAnd when each petal is unfoldingBreathe the living radiance inside

And Finally …A Little Gem:

If there is time for the problemThere is time for the solutionThe two walk hand in hand

Until one is the stronger.
