Getting ready for rehearsals
NORTH TYNESIDE DANCE FESTIVAL
Hedleys registered a dance group to go into the North Tyneside Dance Festival to be held
on March 8th at the Whitley Bay Playhouse. The theme for the dance was The Living Planet and we decided to do a dance to show the
process a caterpillar goes through to become a butterfly. Daniel Kelly, Macy Cowell, Imogen King, Danny Morton, Jasmine Steele, Jade Jamieson, and Merry James were chosen to do the dance. Once a week they came along to the hall
on a lunch time to practice their dance and gradually it started to come together. Merry wrote a lovely Poem and a friend of the school played the flute for the music.
Both were then put together with Merry reciting the poem and her dad helping to put it all together on a CD. Costumes were kindly made by Sandra Phelps SSA from primary, and the students helped in art week making fantastic cocoons and leaves. The only thing miss-
ing was a tree for the butterflies to fly round. Katie Murray and Sue Fisher came to the rescue and kindly said we could take the lovely white tree in that stands in the library, we
were all ready! Rehearsals took place on the Tuesday 6th at the playhouse and everything went great music sounded great and students performed their routine well.
On the night of the performance everyone was so excited, we could not wait to perform on the stage in front of a big audience and the students did not let us down they were fantas-
tic. The audience gave them a huge round of applause and there were a few tears in that au-
dience also, it was definitely a night to remember. I would personally like to thank all in-volved with the dance and to the parents who supported their children and came along to the festival on the night. Thank you

As part of our STEm projects students participated in a team work challenge in their maths les-
son. Pupils discussed what you needed to do to have successful teamwork, making a joint brainstorm of their ideas. We then looked at quotes about team work, deciding which we felt
were the best and why.
Pupils then completed a team work challenge, trying to build a pillow for a egg not to crack when dropped from 10 ft to help the Easter Bunny with his rounds. Pupils worked together,
tested and evaluated their designs. We had some very successful attempts and some less suc-cessful ones!

Hadrians wall Powerchair sponsored walk
The Mini Magpies Story:
Hedleys Sport in partnership with Newcastle United Foundation has recently de-veloped a youth team. This team was formed in September 2017 and to date has
12 registered players aged between 6 -16. The team have given named them-selves The Mini Magpies and currently train once a week on a Thursday after
school 4pm till 5pm.
Powerchair football is a fast paced and exciting team sport, and it gives the play-ers a real feeling of belonging and achievement. Oli Crawshaw one of the players
said: ”I never thought I'd be able to play football until I started Powerchair
football. It's helped me to make new friends and I love it."
The initial work in setting up the club has now been completed, and the club is
currently at a stage whereby it wants and needs to move onto the next phase of its development, which is to compete in the North East Regional League. In order
to become competitive at this level specialist Powerchairs are required costing ap-proximately £6500 each. Players do pay subs each week but it will take a long
time to save up the money required. So staff from Percy Hedley, parents, friends and coaches from Newcastle Foundation 20 in total, decided to try to raise money
by doing a sponsored walk.
The trek involved a walk over two days along Hadrian's Wall from Walton in Cum-bria to Chester’s fort Northumberland on the 12th and 13th of April staying over
at the Sill YHA. The weather was not kind to us, the first day consisted of mist, rain and wind! But it did not stop us we walked 19 miles. After a good night’s rest
the group set off once again but the weather was not good rain, poor visibility and the mud made it extremely difficult and it took us two and a half hours to walk 3
miles. The climbs were steep and dangerous coming down the other side so a de-
cision was made to take a circular route lower down ending up walking 9 miles. The total walked was 28 miles raising over £3,000.
Because the weather was so
bad and the distance wasn’t covered the group have decided
to do another one day walk to make up the miles, so if you
would like to sponsor us please find the link below and help us
achieve our goal to support young talents. Thank you!

Lord Taverners Boccia League Regionals
The qualifying team from the county Boccia competition Ted Maughan, Daniel
Waugh, Colin Scott and Azhad Fauzi, headed off for the Regional competition on February 21st.
They played well and were up against some tough opposition but held their nerve. 18 teams in total with 6 in our pool, 1st to 4th place tied
on games won and points. In the end it came down to points and it was our team that came up trumps
winning most of their games with good point differences and finished in Gold medal position .
They have now qualified to go to the University of
Hertfordshire sports village for the nationals and I
certainly wish them loads of luck and hope they do well.
Sports Relief The whole of the school took part in Sports Relief
week commencing 19th of March. We started at the beginning of the week logging the
distances the young rookies swam at the Lakeside, this also contributed towards their Gold award as
they managed to swim 2.53 miles. Students from classes counted steps walked through the week.
Therapists and teachers recorded in the Hydro les-
sons and measured the distance to get to the pool from their class.Students took part in adapted cy-
cling in the hall and when the weather was nice outside in school yard and it the community.
Friday in KS4 there was a bake and cake sale which raised a total of £100.
The total miles cov-
ered over the week were added up and it
came to a grand total of 104 miles fantastic
effort from all of our students a huge well
done.
