All students have access to the program at school, at home or anywhere they have access to a computer. IXL is a research based program that provides opportunities for students to practice math skills at their level. IXL’s math skills are aligned to the Common Core Standards. Teachers have given or will be giving students and their family login information. Log in and check it out! If you have any questions regarding IXL, you can contact your child’s teacher. On Wednesday, November 12th we will be having a Veterans’ Day assembly to honor the men and women who have served and con- tinue to serve our great country. We would like to invite Veterans to our assembly. The assembly will start at 9:30 in our gymnasium. We hope to see you there. With the weather starting to change it is important for the kids to wear winter coats, gloves and hats to help keep them warm. Please have them dress appropriately. I would advise writing your child’s name in their coat. If your child is sick, please keep them home until they are feeling bet- ter. We want to avoid spreading germs and getting other kids sick if possible. When your child is home for a day due to being sick or other reasons, please contact the main office at 833-5720. If the school is not notified about the reason of the absence, the absence is considered unexcused.

A Word from Mr Parman November 2014 Dear Helen Baller Families,

It was a great October! Students and staff have started to settle in and are familiar with school and classroom routines and expectations. I have been in all classrooms several times. I am very impressed with the students’ work ethic, academics and behavior. We’ve had a terrific start to the school year.

I want to say thank you to the PTA, Mr. Rold, Mr. Hunley, Mrs. Brown and our community for supporting the Fun Run. The students had a ton of fun. The money we raised will be used to support art enrichment pro-grams at Helen Baller.

Recently we were able to purchase access to a web-based math pro-gram called IXL.

On Wednesday, November 12th we will be having a Veterans’ Day assembly to honor the men and women who have served and con-tinue to serve our great country.

Lastly, if at all possible please try to avoid picking up your child(ren) early from school. It is difficult for children to keep pace with the class when they are missing school. In the event that you do have to pick up your child(ren) early, please send a note or call the office an hour ahead of time. This will allow for the teacher and office to prepare ahead of time for the early dismissal. Arriving early to pick-up your child(ren) is advised since they will not be called from class until you are in the building.

I want to say thanks to all the families and community members for helping make the start of the year a great one. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me in person, by phone or email. Have a great November.

Go Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers!

Sincerely,Aaron Parman Principal

Success Book Roll CallBelow is a list of students who have signed the Success Book during the month of September. Any Helen Baller staff member can have a student sign the Success Book for being successful with academics, behavior or work ethic. Several of the students signed the Success Book multiple times, but I have only listed their name once.

Way to go Helen Baller Bears! We are proud of you!

Please encourage your child to read each night! It is exciting to see so many students enthused about reading and enjoying the library!

Parents of 4th and 5th grade students, please encourage your child to read the “Sasquatch” books, take an AR test after reading the book, and turn in the results of their test to me. I record their prog-ress on a spreadsheet and add their name to the list in the library. So far, 37 of the Sasquatch books have been read! Yeah!

Thank you so much for the dedicated volunteers who are consistently helping me this year. Your help is very much appreciated. Also, thank you to our tireless PTA group. They are dedicated, hard-working, and helpful!

The 13th Annual Camas Educational Foundation

Phone-a-thon

November 10-13, 2014

Join the fun and raise some funds for Camas

schools. The annual phone-a-thon gives middle

and high school students a chance to volunteer

their time and make scripted, professional calls to

Camas families to ask for donations.

Each year over 100 students and adults “man the

phones” for three nights at Zellerbach

Administrative Center to “dial in” support. This

year’s goal is to raise $20,000.

For the Kids

Will you support our cause? Please make a

pledge when our student volunteers call. A

pledge of any amount makes a difference. Credit

and debit cards are welcome and if we miss you,

please visit our website to donate by clicking on

the “Donate Now” tab.

CEF is a non-profit volunteer group of parents,

educators and community members dedicated to

supporting and enhancing the education of all

Camas students. CEF is registered 501c (3)

Do you need help during the holidays?

All of us have had those years where we may not be look-ing forward to the holidays. There are years when we have plenty and those when we have little. If this is one of those years where you are struggling, please let us know. We work with several organizations that are look-ing for referrals from families that would benefit from food baskets and gifts.

You can either call Ms. Edie at 833-5720 or email her at [email protected]

In addition, if you are one of those families where it is a good year for you, please also call and let Ms. Edie know so we can give all of our families a wonderful holiday sea-son.
