HELL FIRE 2016 Congratulations to Oklahoma Dee - Men's Overall Champion

and Diamond Kate - Ladies Overall Champion

So you get a pretty good idea of how much folks

liked your annual match when the very next week

after you are done you get EIGHT applications in

the mail for NEXT YEAR'S match. That's right, I

can literally say that spots are filling up fast for

HELL FIRE 2017!

Once again, thanks so much to all of those who

come from near and far to shoot with us and make

this such a wonderful event. Seeing new faces at the

top of the standings was awesome, too. How about

Oklahoma Dee and Diamond Kate winning the

overall titles? They sure seemed happy with those

custom engraved Bowie knives and all the category

winners were impressed with their engraved spur

sets as well. The Jackson Hole Regulators

reputation for unique, useful, and unusual awards is

intact for another year!

And what a great job by the JHR Crew putting on

this match! Thanks so much to those "regulars" who

were counted on for all the behind the scenes work

that goes in to putting on a big show like this. So

many folks just jump in and work wherever they

see something to be done. As they say on HEE

We just can't say enough about all the great support we get for this match. No annual match would be complete

without the vendors that travel long distances to set up and service us. And buddy, we get some great ones! We also

appreciate all those "patrons" that donate raffle items to make our Saturday banquet shine. Speaking of that, the new

pavilion is sooooo much more convenient for gatherings now, isn't it? Make plans now to come back next year.

The Perils of Shooting Through on Saturday

Well, it finally happened. After only 8 years of trying, I got my wife to start shooting with me this summer. Happy

times! Bee Haven (pictured above) is now a SASS Member! HELL FIRE 2016 was her fourth time to compete and

she has let me know that doing 10 stages in one day is TOUGH! Of course, sharing guns, literally running from stage

to stage, and signing up to shoot Classic Cowgirl makes a rough job even rougher. Sure enough, on the 10th stage as

we were rushing to finish without making the posse wait too long, her thumb slipped at the loading table and she shot

that table dead with one of my Rugers. Match Disqualification. Thanks to all those who came to console her through

the shock, embarassment, exhaustion and tears. Y'all really don't know how much it meant to have friends on her

side. My good buddy Crosscut Hardy came and said all the same things I was saying, but you know a wife won't

listen to a husband, right? Thanks for being there.

THIS MONTH IN WESTERN HISTORY October 28, 1835- Texas- Texans and Mexicans skirmished near San Antonio at the battle of

Concepción, the opening engagement in the siege of Bexar. Some ninety Texans under the command

of James Bowie and James W. Fannin, Jr., defeated a force of 275 Mexican soldiers and two

cannons. Mexican losses included fourteen killed and thirty-nine wounded, some of whom died later.

Texas losses included one killed and one wounded.
