Recognising those who care

Carers Week is a National initiative to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges carers face each day and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. This year the week fell on 8th – 14th June. Our carers are committed to making a difference to people’s lives by offering friendship as well as excellent care to the individuals who live with us. To thank our carers for the amazing work they do and to celebrate Carers Week, baskets of sweets were sent out to every Barchester care home.

Nurse’s Day

Barchester celebrated the commitment and skill of its nurses by sending every Barchester nurse a fob watch as a gift for International Nurses’ Day. Barchester’s nurses have an important role in ensuring that residents receive the best possible quality care daily. Their approach is person-centered and with a variety of complex care needs to attend to, their expertise and dedication is crucial to delivering excellent care services. THANK YOU FOR YOUR DEDICATION !

CQC Inspection Our recent CQC Inspection saw us achieve ‘Good’ in all five areas.

A copy of the report can be found in reception or online at www.cqc.org.uk

A few words from Barchester

Barchy Bear Hunt Barchester’s Charitable Foundation celebrated the most important week of their fundraising calendar on 25th – 31st May. During Foundation Week 2015, Barchester care homes across the UK celebrated with tea parties and organised bear hunts, where participants searched high and low for the Foundation’s adorable mascot Barchy Bear. Staff at Barchester’s Head Office also joined in the fundraising fun with a cake sale and a bear hunt of their own. Barchester’s Charitable Foundation supports older people and other adults with a disability by giving small grants to help promote personal independence, dignity and quality of life. Summer Recipe – Goats Cheese and Red Pepper Tart

Cut into finger slices, this tasty tart would be perfect to take along to a summer garden party. Alternatively, serve it with salad for a meal that is nutritious, refreshing and satisfying. Ingredients: (serves 4) Short crust pastry 200g Red pepper – 1 Olive oil – 3tbsp Onions, finely chopped – 100g Clove garlic – 1 Fresh basil leaves – 10 Goat’s cheese, sliced – 50g Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Method 1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C / gas mark

4. 2. Roll out the short crust pastry and use it to

line 4 x 12cm individual tins. 3. Bake the pastry blind (partly cook it) for 20

minutes. 4. Preheat the grill to high. Skin the red pepper

by brushing with 1tbsp oil and grilling until blistered.

5. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a frying pan and sweat the onions and garlic golden brown.

6. Sprinkle the onions over the pastry. 7. Halve the peppers, remove the seeds and cut

into thin strips. 8. Place the pepper strips on top of the onions. 9. Arrange the basil and goat’s cheese on the

vegetables. Brush with the remaining olive oil and season. Bake for 15 minutes until the cheese has melted and lightly colored.
