Hannah More Primary School Newsletter 8th November 2019 Hello everyone Welcome to term 2; it has been lovely to see everyone back in school this week. The term ahead is packed with interesng learning. Today year 3 headed off on a trip to the Big Pit and yesterday year 5 enjoyed their first session with arsts from Studio Meraki. We also had a special visit from author Amy Wilson who talked to year 5 and 6 children. The Life Bus has also been parked up in the playground all week. Do speak to your child about these excing happenings! A big thank you to everyone who came along to our lovely bonfire party on Tuesday. I was so sorry to miss this as it is one of my favourite school events of the year. Mr Webster and Ruth said it went really well and I know we need to send some very special thanks to We the Curious, Cookpad, Burges Salmon, the PTA and some of our fantasc school volunteers for all their help. I hope some of you will take advantage of the SS Great Britains special open days this weekend. This is for everyone who lives or aends school in Lawrence Hill. It is completely free, but you do need to have one of the special flyers that were sent home with children on Tuesday. On Monday we will have a special Remembrance Day assembly. We are honoured that one of our reading volunteers will come and play the Last Post, a tradional piece of music played on a bugle or horn to remember and honour soldiers who lost their lives in the First World War. Best wishes, Sue Ramsay, Headteacher Year 1: Noba and Zedeciah Year 2: Andy and Renico Year 3: Noura and Husnain Year 4: Mohamed H and Amira Year 5: Mohamed S and Mohamed A Year 6: Hamza and Gracie

Hello everyone

Welcome to term 2; it has been lovely to see everyone back in school this week. The term ahead is packed with interesting learning. Today year 3 headed off on a trip to the Big Pit and yesterday year 5 enjoyed their first session with artists from Studio Meraki. We also had a special visit from author Amy Wilson who talked to year 5 and 6 children. The Life Bus has also been parked up in the playground all week. A big thank you to everyone who came along to our lovely bonfire party on Tuesday. I was so sorry to miss this as it is one of my favourite school events of the year. Mr Webster and Ruth said it went really well and I know we need to send some very special thanks to We the Curious, Cookpad, Burges Salmon, the PTA and some of our fantastic school volunteers for all their help.

I hope some of you will take advantage of the SS Great Britain’s special open days this weekend. This is for everyone who lives or attends school in Lawrence Hill. It is completely free, but you do need to have one of the special flyers that were sent home with children on Tuesday.

On Monday we will have a special Remembrance Day assembly. We are honoured that one of our reading volunteers will come and play the Last Post, a traditional piece of music played on a bugle or horn to remember and honour soldiers who lost their lives in the First World War.

Best wishes,

Year 2 started their new book ‘The Pirate

Cruncher’ this week. We practised our

best pirate voices when reading! We also

started to learn about Isambard Kingdom

Brunel as part of our new enquiry ‘Who is

important in my city?’

At home, please learn the 2, 5 and 10 times tables using Times Table Rockstars. And read every day at home!

This week we started to read our new class book ‘KrindleKrax ’. Ask your child what has happened so far! We also started our new enquiry ‘What is under our feet? ’ and have an exciting day planned at the Big Pit -today! At home, practise spellings from your home work and read with your child as much as possible. Ask them to tell you each week what has been happening in our class text.

We have had a good start to the term and especially enjoyed the Life Bus, and welcoming reading buddies and number partners back in school this week. More news next week! At home, please continue to read widely and to use Times Table Rockstars to practise multiplication facts.

We have had a great week of Reading

Street Child and learning about life in

Victorian Britain. We loved having our

artists in this week to start work on our

sculpture projects. We have been working

hard reading tables as mathematicians.

You can help at home by reading the time on

digital and analogue clocks.

This week Year 1 learnt their new story book The Magic Hat. We also learnt about materials and what things are made of. Help at home by reading with your child every day for 10 minutes. Practise adding more to a number with objects and in your head. Have a go at writing stories you already know, and getting your child to read it back to you.

We began a new investigation as

scientists. We aim to find out the

difference between noise and sound.

So far, we have learnt the basics of

how sound travels, and are looking

forwards to investigating this further!

As writers we have written some lovely

descriptive poems about the character

from our new book ‘The Iron Man’ by

Ted Hughes. At home, encourage your

child to practise joining up their

handwriting.

We really enjoyed our Life Bus session this week where we

learnt about our bodies and how to stay healthy. We also enjoyed doing some

woodwork - more news about that next week! At home, please talk about ways to

stay healthy. Parents - please help your child with their homework as well!
