Hello Yr 2 and welcome to another week of Literacy. By now you will have hopefully listened to, watched or read all of Fantastic Mr Fox. You will have a good understanding of the plot. You can still continue to read yourself at a slower pace, but in school we would have made sure you had exposure to all of the story. We have put the guiding reading questions at the end of this document, as we would use these daily in school to go over chapters in more detail. Day 1- You may now have started your own story map. Today try to complete it. There are some ideas on last week’s plan for what it might look like. You might find it easier to think of the main events or use the chapter titles to help you remember. Here is a flow chart to help you remember some of the main events. Meeting the farmers Meeting Mr Fox Mr Fox’s tail is shot off The farmers start to dig with shovels. Hello Yr 2 and welcome to another week of Literacy.

By now you will have hopefully listened to, watched or read all of Fantastic Mr Fox. You

will have a good understanding of the plot. You can still continue to read yourself at a

slower pace, but in school we would have made sure you had exposure to all of the

story.

We have put the guiding reading questions at the end of this document, as we would use

these daily in school to go over chapters in more detail.

Day 1- You may now have started your own story map. Today try to complete it. There

are some ideas on last week’s plan for what it might look like. You might find it easier to

think of the main events or use the chapter titles to help you remember. Here is a flow

chart to help you remember some of the main events.

Meeting the farmers

Meeting Mr Fox

Mr Fox’s tail is shot off

The farmers start to dig with shovels. Mr Fox

digs further down

The farmers bring in diggers

The diggers dig and the foxes dig

The farmers set up camp to try and starve

Mr Fox out

The farmers have the hill surrounded and the

foxes begin to starve

Mr Fox suggests that he has an idea and so the foxes keep digging

Day 2

Look at the Tension Graph below, it records how the tension builds and then

falls away again. We have done these before in class and some of you have been

able to note on your graphs how the tension is built. Sometimes it is through a

description of events or telling us how a character is feeling.

Activity- Compete an emotion graph for another chapter in the book, these are good

ones or you could do one for the whole book.

Chapter 3: The Shooting

Chapter 4: The Terrible Shovels

Chapter 5: The Terrible Tractors

Chapter 10: Boggis’s Chicken House Number One

Chapter 12: Badger

You can draw your own graph, create it on the computer or use the blank one above if

you are lucky enough to have a printer!

Day 3

Write a diary extract as one of the small foxes. A good point is from Chapter 11 as

their Mum is weak and there is a lot of change but you can choose any day to write

about. We are looking for you to show several things with a diary extract.

Date/day/time

Write in the first person

Write in the past tense

Usually tell events in chronological order

Include emotions and feelings

Use time conjunctions i.e after that

Neat handwriting

We know you will do a great job.

Day 4/5

Re-read the chapter about the ‘Great Feast’ very carefully. You are going

to do a longer piece of writing on this.

You are going to imagine you are a little mouse peeping around the corner

observing the feast. We know how good you are at writing in role so just

tell the reader everything that could be happening, the jokes and the

laughter etc What are people eating? Who is the loudest? You can use

your imagination as it is probably a great party, very much like Sunny’s

welcome home party.

You could recreate the scene if you have small world toys or lego and

record some dialogue or make an animation.

LT: I can write in role imagining I am observing ‘The Great Feast’

When you have finished your writing go back over it, reading it again and

again, to check it makes sense and edit it looking at how you can improve

it. Check your spelling and vocabulary. Then send it to us so that we can

see your brilliant writing.

Extension

If you have seen the film you can compare the book to the film, maybe

using a Venn diagram.

Look at some of the extra activities in the guided reading sessions. The

answers can be done verbally through discussion.

Well done -that’s all for this week folks, please send us your work and don’t feel

pressured to do everything- you know your children best. The work is here for you to

do if you choose.
