Protective Measures for Your
Storage Facility:
n Secureentrances(withinfiredepartmentguidelines)tolimitaccess.
n Havestaffuseemployeeidentificationcardsorbadges.
n Createandmaintainanemergencyresponseplan.
n Testemergencylighting,andmakerepairswhennecessary.
n Testalarmsystemstobesuretheyworkproperly.Enhancealarmsystemstoincludedoorstocriticalareaslikeutilityclosets,HVAC,rooftops,andstreet-levelfireexits.
n Createa24-hourcontactinformationlistforallkeypersonnel.
n Beawareofsuspiciousactivity,especiallyinparkinglotsandgarages.
n Haveuniformedsecuritypersonnelconductperiodicinteriorandexteriorrovingpatrols.
n Besuspiciousofpeoplewithlargeamountsofcash,orpeoplewhousequestionableIDtorentaunit.
n Makecopiesofidentificationandattachtorentalapplications.

The Northeast Ohio Regional Fusion Center is a Terrorism Early Warning Group that is one of a
number of TEWs in metropolitan areas across the country. The TEW brings local, state and federal law enforcement officials together with public and private organizations to detect, deter and respond to terrorist
threats in the Northeast Ohio community.

informationandmaterialsbeforelaunchinganassignedmission.
Youcanhelppreventanddetectterrorism—andothertypesofcrime—bywatchingoutforsuspiciousactivitiesinyourstorageorwarehousefacilitiesandreportingthemtotheproperauthorities.
Manycitiesoffercrimepreventionseminarsandprogramsforbusinessownersandmanagers.Contactyourlocalpolicedepartmentformoreinformation.
Be alert to suspicious activityBealertforactivitiesthatmightindicatesomeoneisusingyourstorageorwarehousefacilityincriminalorterroristactivities.Suspiciousbehaviorcouldinclude:
n Insistingonpayingcash,sometimesweeksormonthsinadvance
n Seemingoverlyconcernedaboutprivacy
n Frequentlyvisitingthestoragefacilitylateatnightoratunusualtimes
n Behavingstrangelywhenapproachedbyfacilitystafforsecuritypersonnel
n Unusualfumes,liquids,residuesorodorsemanatingfromthestorageunit
n Displayingburnsorchemicalexposuresymptoms,andprovidingvagueorirrationalexplanationfortheinjuries
n Discardingchemicalsinstoragefacilitydumpsters
Storageofthefollowingitemsmayalsobecauseforconcern:
n Pesticides
n Weaponsorammunition
n Flightmanualsorsimilarmaterials
n Largedeliveryvehicles,vans,cargocontainers,trailersorrelatedequipment
n Laboratoryequipmentsuchasflasksorsealedcontainers
n Protectiveclothingsuchassurgicalmasks,gasmasks,rubberglovesorself-containedbreathingapparatus
n Otherspecialtyequipmentsuchasincinerators,incubators,cellcultures,agriculturalsprayers,improvisedshowersoreyebaths
n Textbooksandjournalsdiscussingbiology,chemistry,explosivesorpoisons
n Largequantitiesoffuel
n Agriculturalorindustrialchemicalsand/orequipment
n Explosives,blastingcaps,fusesand/orsimilaritems
