In Memory of Jim Erickson (1935 - 2020) It is with great sadness to announce that our neighbor Jim Erickson, one of First Hill's most engaged and community oriented individuals, passed away on July 4, 2020. Jim Erickson was passionate about all things First Hill, and anyone that knew him would agree. He was monumental as a Board Member towards helping the First Hill Help Shape the Future of Freeway Park Freeway Park, one of First Hill's most iconic places is having an online open-house where your input will help prioritize the most needed improvements to the park. As part of the Washington State Convention Center Addition public benefits, $9.25M is allocated to the park for repairs, restoration, and potentially new features. You can participate

Jim Erickson was passionate about all thingsFirst Hill and anyone that knew him wouldagree He was monumental as a BoardMember towards helping the First Hill

Help Shape the Future ofFreeway Park

Freeway Park one of First Hills most iconicplaces is having an online open-house whereyour input will help prioritize the mostneeded improvements to the park As part ofthe Washington State Convention CenterAddition public benefits $925M is allocatedto the park for repairs restoration andpotentially new features You can participate

Most notably Jim Erickson was the chair ofFHIAs Urban Design and Public SpaceCommittee for many years Jim helped to setthe foundation for the First Hill Public RealmAction Plan one of the most useful tools ourneighborhood has to ensure that newdevelopments in our neighborhood adhereto consistent guidelines in the public right-of-way Similarly he was a champion inhelping First Hill have a strong voice at CityHall

Besides chairing the Urban Design and PublicSpace Committee he was integral toensuring that First Hill and other center cityneighborhoods in Seattle receivecommensurate public benefits as part of theWashington State Convention CenterAddition Without Jims hard work the TerryAvenue redesign project wouldnt haveprogressed as far as it has

We owe a lot to Jim Erickson as he helpedmake First Hill what it is today The First HillImprovement Association is committed tohonoring his memory through advocacy onsome of his favorite topics ADA accessibilityfor pedestrians expanding and enhancingthe iconic tree canopy adequate bicyclefacilities and reliable transit for First Hill

If everyone committed to being as engagedas Jim Erickson was even at a fraction of thelevel he was the world would be a muchbetter place Jim you will be missed
