Business Health Select Private healthcare cover for small and medium-sized businesses

Helping you build a stronger,

healthier business

We cover

37,000+small and medium-sized businesses and

258,000+employees.

We believe the health and wellbeing of Chamber members and their employees is critical to business success. That’s why we’re proud to have been working in association with AXA PPP healthcare for the last 10 years.

DAVID RICHES, Executive Director, British Chambers of Commerce

Building a business takes hard work, dedication and focus. But, without a healthy and productive team to support you, success can begin to feel less stable.

At AXA PPP healthcare, we understand that your people are the foundations of your success. That’s why we’re here for them when they need us most, supporting them with healthcare cover that’s built around their needs – and yours.

From talking to business owners, we know that value-for-money matters. That’s why we’ve made it easy for you to construct a plan that gives you what you need for your budget – without compromising quality of service, convenience and support.

And we know that, more than anything, it’s your passion for your business that drives you. That’s why we help you take care of your staff – so you can focus on making your business thrive.

Welcome to AXA PPP healthcare.

What’s insideSelect section heading to jump to that section.

When you’ve got bold plans for your business, you need the right talent to help you realise them. Healthcare cover can help you attract the best people to your growing business. And it can make it easier for you to keep them.

With Business Health Select cover, you’ll show your employees that you really value what they do for you. That you’re ready to invest in their health and wellbeing – and in getting them back on their feet again if they become unwell. From the IT expert upstairs who keeps every member of your team up and running, to the indispensable office manager who gets things done, they’ll know that their loyalty, dedication and willingness to go the extra mile really make a difference to your shared success.

The benefits for your business

Less time out of action for you and your employees

In a small business, one person being off for a long time can have a big impact. Without someone else to pick up the work it can be hard for you and your team to keep to the commitments you’ve made. And that can increase the pressure on everyone.

We’ll help your employees get the care they need. They’ll be seen quickly by experts and, if they need an operation, it’ll be booked in speedily so you can plan around it.

Healthcare cover as unique as your business

You run a tech start-up, so you might not worry about staff absences because of physical injury at work. But if the people who work at your IT hardware-supply company are lifting heavy machinery or working with equipment, cover for therapies like physio might be top of your list.

With Business Health Select, you can choose the healthcare cover options that most fit your needs – and not pay for the ones that don’t.

Physio to ease the pressure A sprained ankle from the Sunday game. Posture discomfort. Backache that won’t settle down. Problems with bones, joints and muscles are among the most common reasons for needing time off work. When pain strikes, your employees can get a phone appointment with a physio to assess their symptoms and discuss next steps. They won’t need to wait to see a GP to refer them.

If you have people you

can’t do without and you want to keep them

happy at work, it really makes sense.

Answers online, and on the end of the line

Everyone wants answers they can trust. With AXA PPP healthcare membership, your staff won’t need to waste time wading through the web for answers. Our online health centres take them straight to the health information they need.

If they’d rather speak to someone, our experienced Health at Hand experts are just a phone call away, 24/7, ready to answer their questions.

Cancer and heart care

Cancer and heart conditions touch everyone. So if one of your employees is affected, your whole team is. Our experienced nurses make sure no one has to find their way on their own.

They know all about side effects, medication and the way your employee might be feeling. They’re there for them at the end of the phone, 24 hours a day

every day of the year. And they’re there for family and colleagues, too. Guiding everyone through how to talk about cancer and heart conditions, what to expect and how to be supportive.

Keeping your team fit, well and working

With Business Health Select cover, you’ll reward your people for putting their health first. From 50% off an annual membership at PureGym to money off Nuffield preventative health assessments. From discounted Realise lifestyle diagnostic testing to deals on everything from spa days to sportswear at Active+, our online health and wellness shop.

And it may cost less than you think

Because you get to choose the options you pay for – and how you pay for them – for many of our small and medium-sized business members (and we’re proud to say that there are 258,000 of you), subscriptions can be less than you might expect.

They could skip the wait With Doctor@Hand, your employees can get a 20-minute video or phone consultation with a GP whenever they want and wherever they are – at 10pm*, before work, in their lunch break. There’s no need for them to wait around until the next morning or longer for an appointment at their local practice. Doctor@Hand is delivered by Doctor Care Anywhere and comes as part of the Extended Cover option.

They’ll be seen and treated quickly, wherever they are

A specialist appointment can mean a whole day lost if your employee has to travel a long way. We work with over 17,000 specialists and practitioners across the UK. If your employee’s GP recommends they see a specialist, our Fast Track Appointments team will make sure they’re matched with a consultant-level expert at a place and a time that suits them. Often within a couple of working days.

Private healthcare cover tailored to your business and budget. That’s what Business Health Select is all about. Just add the options you’d like to the core cover. Then manage your costs to get the subscription that suits you.

If you’re covering more than 15 employees, you can offer different levels of cover to different team members, too.

Building the right plan

I chose AXA PPP healthcare because of the level of cover we get for the price – and from a well-known brand that’s linked to the Chamber of Commerce.

Investing for the future while keeping an eye on your bottom line. It’s what makes you good at business.

Here are some other ways you can manage your subscriptions.

Managing the costs

Pay up-front

A simple way to save 5%. Pay your subscription yearly instead of monthly.

Select the Six-week option

If your employee can get eligible treatment on the NHS within six weeks of when it should take place, they will be treated by the NHS. If they need to wait more than six weeks, they go private straight away. You’ll save up to 20% a year and you’ll still get your staff back to work quickly.

Fix your subscription for two years

Feel reassured that you’ll know exactly how much you’ll be investing in each employee for a couple of years. Tax changes may still apply.

Choose an excess

Reduce your annual subscription with an excess of £100, £250 or £500 per employee.

When an employee is off sick, the pressure is on at this small but growing consultancy. Each chartered surveyor travels out to their clients, and it can be a real challenge for other members of the team to pick up a colleague’s work during unplanned absences.

To help their staff get back on the road to recovery quickly, each member has two out-patient consultations a year included in their plan on top of their core cover. They’ve also selected

A. L. Green Associates

Tailored healthcare cover like this shows the employees who work here that the effort they put in to their work is really valued. And it helps the business better prevent the knock-on effects of stress on a close-knit team. Your cost: £33.12 a week

What can affordable healthcare cover look like?

We’ve put together some examples to show you how flexible your cover and costs can be.

We’ve based our fictional businesses in Guildford, Surrey. Each has six employees aged 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50. They pay yearly, have core cover and Extra Cancer Cover as standard. Plus an excess of £100 and a two-year moratorium.

Plan costs are representative as of December 2017. And prices will vary depending on location, cover options and ages.

With long hours and difficult cases a given, stress is a real concern for solicitors at this law firm.

To help everyone stay well and keep doing work they’re proud of, the company has included the Mental Health option with their cover. They’re also helping to reduce the risk of long-term absences by offering confidential support and counselling through an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), so everyone has a safe space to offload.

the Six-week option, which has helped to keep costs down. Your cost: £27.77 a week

equivalent to

£4.63 per employee

Choose your underwriting options

You can also decide how you’ll cover your team members for any conditions they might have before joining us. These underwriting options will affect the cost of your plan in different ways.

Two-year moratorium

We take care of new health concerns that begin while your employees are with us. We’ll then cover any pre-existing medical conditions they have after two years, if they’ve been completely trouble free from advice, treatment or a special diet for a year.

Continued medical exclusions

If you’re coming from another provider, you can ‘lift and shift’ any underwriting arrangements you’ve had with your previous health insurer across to your new plan. The new terms and conditions for your plan will apply.

Medical history disregarded We cover your employees for pre-existing medical conditions, subject to your membership terms. Available if you’re looking to cover 15 people or more.

Fully underwritten

Your employees get the private healthcare cover that means so much to them, but any pre-existing medical conditions they have aren’t covered.

Arranging treatment and paying for it is important. But so is how well you and your team are looked after when they need care.

Our professionalism and medical expertise really make a difference to you and your people when and where it matters. We’ll get your employees the speedy diagnosis and treatment they need to get back to work quickly. And we’ll make use of the reach and resources we have to be there for them. It’s all part of our core service.

Our medical services and expertise

An appointment near home. Or a check-up close to work so you can spend less time away from the office.

We have access to a network of over 23,000 specialists, so whatever works best, we’ll arrange it.

10

When they need to see a medical specialist quickly

Saving time is vital – for your employee’s health and for your business. So if a member of your team falls ill we’ll help them get the right treatment quickly.

All they need to do is ask their GP for an open referral (a referral that doesn’t name a particular specialist), then give us a call. Our Fast Track Appointments team will find an appropriate specialist.

They’ll make sure that the appointment is at a time and place that minimises time out for your employee, meaning less disruption for your business.

When they need someone to support them through cancer

If someone in your team is diagnosed with cancer, our experienced cancer team will be just a phone call away to talk to.

They’ll take the time to get to know your employee, understand their condition and listen to what they’re going through. They’ll explain treatment choices and provide information on everything from eating well during chemotherapy to coping at home after surgery. And they’ll answer any questions your employee or their loved ones have, whenever they have them.

We’ll help you be a supportive employer, too. If you need help with talking about cancer to your team, we can guide you. And we’ll talk you through how your employee might need time off for appointments, treatment and recovery, and how they might feel when they return to work.

When they want to ease the pressure with physio

If one of your employees wakes up with a bad back, trying to push through a day at work can be tough. And it could lead to more problems and absences in the weeks to come.

That’s why our Working Body physiotherapists are on the end of the line to help your people manage or alleviate pain.

They’ll assess your employee’s symptoms over the phone, and talk to them about what they could mean. If they think exercise could ease their pain, they’ll recommend some they can try at home – or even at work.

It might be a 20-minute call your employee makes in the morning – or even a chat they can fit in at lunchtime – but Working Body might be just what they need to get moving again.

When they need dedicated support through heart conditions

If someone in your team needs long-term treatment for something like coronary heart disease, or help managing a condition like high blood pressure, they can call our dedicated heart nurses for support.

Our experienced nurses specialise in cardiac cases. They’ve got the time to talk about what’s involved in bypass surgery. They can answer questions about living – and working – with a heart condition. And they’ll understand if it’s just a call to relieve stress levels.

They’ll support your employee from the very beginning, throughout their treatment, and they’ll check in even when they’re better.

Support for you

Your time is important to you, so it’s important to us. As your business grows, we’ll help make sure the time you spend looking after your team’s health doesn’t grow with it.

When you need to call us about your plan, you’ll get straight through to an account manager from our small-business team (8.30am to 5.30pm).

It’s our calling to care for you and your team, and to be there when you need us most. We’re here to help you over the phone, so you don’t have to clear your day when you want to speak to us.

Support for your team

Your people are one of your greatest assets. Our healthcare cover actively takes away some of the duty of care that comes with your commitment to their health.

No need to go through you

Their private healthcare cover is all set up. We’ll send them a series of emails in their first year telling them about their benefits, our services and how to get in touch with us.

We’ll also point them towards their secure Member Online portal. Whether it’s a health issue that’s troubling them, a detail on their plan, the progress of a claim they want to check – they’ll find the support and information they’re looking for.

Pre-authorisation to simplify claims

Surgery to fix a bad knee. Physio to ease their aches and pains. A diagnostic MRI scan that could put their mind at ease. If your employees are planning to claim, we ask them to check with us first.

Our expert personal advisers can confirm the cover that’s available straight away. So you and your employees will know they’re covered before treatment, saving time down the line.

Expert help, any time of the day

We’re medical experts and we’re here to support your team. If someone has a health worry – whether it’s a question about

medication or a niggling cough – they just need to pick up the phone to us at Health at Hand.

They’ll be able to discuss their symptoms with a nurse, check their medication with a pharmacist, talk to a counsellor about how they’re feeling, or ask a midwife about their pregnancy. The faster it’s sorted, the sooner they’ll feel better and be back at work.

When they want a second opinion

If a member of your team is unhappy with a diagnosis – and you’ve chosen an out-patient option as part of your plan – we can arrange for another specialist to go through everything with them.

They’ll either confirm what the doctor has said or suggest a different course of action, helping to put their mind at ease.

When they want to live a healthier life

It’s not just about support in ill-health. With AXA PPP healthcare cover, you can encourage your team to feel healthier every day – helping to keep your business productive.

They’ll be able to get 50% off an annual membership at PureGym* or enjoy discounts at Nuffield and British Military Fitness gyms. They can get discounts on vitamins, supplements and sports equipment at our online health and wellness shop, Active+. And they can take advantage of deals on health tech – from smart scales that analyse BMI to wristbands that monitor blood pressure.
