English Week 3 Pirate Poetry Week 3 English Activities This week we will be learning to read different poems based on Pirates. We will try to find a pattern and rhyme in some of the poems. Read the different Pirate poems (see resources) Questions to discuss with your grown up – Which poem did you like? Why did you like it? What were the poems about? Can you think of any rhyming words? Monday: Reading Today we are going to be reading different poems that are linked to pirates and the seaside. We will try to understand what the poem is about and see if we can find any words in the poem that might rhyme. Read the poem called ‘Pirate Pete’ (see Monday resources) and then answer the questions about the poem. Tuesday: Today we are going to look at describing words (adjectives) and rhyming words in some of the Pirate poems. Read the pirate limericks. Ask your child to try reading one and support if they get stuck on any words. Always remember to use the reading routine (spot the digraphs, say the sounds, read the word). Use the resources – choose a limerick and underline the describing words e.g. There was an old pirate called Billy Who liked to wear shirts that were frilly He’d walk round the ship With his hand on his hip But the crew thought he looked rather silly ! Which words can you find that rhyme?
