HENDERSON HALL
Exceptional Family Member Program
We had a great turnout for our February Valentine’s Day Social. Our Henderson Hall Family Advocacy Program Counselors, Jorge and Tiffany, had a great session with our parents. We learned about the different spheres of self-care, journaling, and made touchstones. The kids created and decorated mailboxes for valentines and made peacocks. We had so much fun! A spe-cial thanks to our awesome Marine volunteers who came from Quantico to make sure the kids had a good time. We couldn’t have done it without you! Our next EFMP Family Social will be a potluck event scheduled for Saturday, March 11 from 1300-1500 at Fort Belvoir’s USO. We will be discussing special education on the parent side, and the kids will have crafts and fun. Hope to see you there!

Henderson Hall EFMP Commander’s Reports
EFMP, Marine Responsibilities:
1. Ensure that the application for enrollment in the EFMP is complete, correct, and current and is submitted to the local EFMP in-
stallation office. 2. Retain a copy of the EFMP package for personal
records and update enrollment through the in-
stallation EFMP office at least every 3 years, or
when the conditions of special need change. Changes, which may affect enrollment, include a
change in marital status, dependency, or medical status of the Exceptional Family Member.
3. Communicate directly with Manpower Manage-ment Division at Headquarters, Marine Corps when in receipt or in anticipation of orders.
4. Submit updated application requesting disenrollment from EFMP when a family member no longer requires the special medical and/or special educational services.
Changes which may affect enrollment include a change in marital status or depend-ency.
5. Check in/out with the local EFMP staff during PCS moves to ensure the EFMP case
file is maintained by the appropriate EFMP staff. Marine Corps Order 1754.4B allows the
EFMP Program Manager to provide each unit commander with an EFMP Command-
er’s Report which lists the Marines under their command who are enrolled in the EFMP and the status of their enrollment.
This list only includes the sponsor’s name, EFMP enrollment date, and enrollment ex-piration date. Adhering to privacy and con-
fidentiality, EFMP personnel will not pro-vide any additional details or information
to the Commander. The primary purpose of this report is to ensure timely update by the Sponsor prior to the expiration date.
Per Henderson Hall EFMP Standard Oper-
ating Procedure (SOP), Commander’s Re-ports are provided to each unit command-er monthly. If a Marine remains noncom-
pliant with MCO 1754.4B, Henderson Hall EFMP will elevate the name of the Marine to HQMC for resolution.

EFMP FAQ of the Month
Q: What is my EFMP category?
A: The Marine Corps EFMP does not use categories anymore. Each EFMP family’s case
is looked at by HQMC EFMP individually when orders to PCS come up. However, EFMP does use Levels of Need (LoN 1-4), but that pertains only to respite care. For more infor-mation, you may contact your installation EFMP at 703-693-7195.

Resource: Center for Parent
Information and Resources
The Center for Parent Information and Resources (CPIR) serves as a central re-
source of information and products to the community of Parent Training Information
(PTI) Centers and the Community Parent Resource Centers (CPRCs), so that they
can focus their efforts on serving families of children with disabilities. CPIR is made
possible through funding from the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) at
the U.S. Department of Education.
There are numerous resources and infor-mation for parents. As military families,
moving is inevitable, so the website will give you information about your parent
training and information center (PTI) wherever you go. You can also search for information that relates to your family or
situation, such as special education or be-havior.

Henderson Hall: EFMP Connections (Mentorship Program)
Professionals, websites, and organizations are all excellent sources to find information. However, there is a natural comfort in finding someone who can relate to your specific situation and per-sonal experiences. Henderson Hall EFMP has a mentorship program called EFMP Connections. Here are some exam-ples of what the program can look like:
▪ Connecting new parents whose child has just received an autism diagnosis with veteran par-
ents who have “walked the walk” when their child was first diagnosed
▪ Who knew that two Marine families whose children are affected by a rare muscular disorder
would both end up in the National Capital Region?
▪ The cancer survivor who wants to offer hope and resources to others
▪ The spouse who is in enrolled in EFMP and would like to connect with other enrolled spouses
to share his/her joys and struggles being a military spouse and an enrolled member of EFMP We keep a confidential list that will not be given out or publicized. Henderson Hall EFMP will pro-vide mentors with a training program, basically an overview of the Marine Corps Exceptional Fami-ly Member Program. Our goal is that this informal peer-to-peer network can offer support, men-torship, and guidance to our EFMP families. If you would like to be a mentor or mentee, please contact your Family Case Worker 703-693-4172 or email [email protected].
