    Dear Ms. Arthur:

    May 16, 1988

Hercules Incorporated 1010 Marshall Road Jacksonville, AR 72076 (501) 982-9481

As requested, please find enclosed the following information:

    • Copies of all available self-monitoring data reports submitted to Jacksonville Wastewater Utility (as required by the Utility issued permit). These reports include daily french drain flow rates, daily discharge rates to the Utility's sewer, and ana- lytical data for the french drains and combined wastewaters (before and after pre-treatment). The point designated "Outfall 002" is the final sampling and metering point (onsite) before pre-treated site waters enter the Utility's sewer system. All of the analyses shown in these reports are performed internally using liquid chromatography.

    • A summary ( "Wastewater Pre-treatment Operation Effluent Data") of analytical data, January, 1987 to date, for the Outfall 002 discharge point. These data are our contract laboratory results from composite samples collected by the Utility. The analyses for the phenols were done by gas chromatography.

    • A copy of our Industrial Discharge Permit issued by the Utility. Please note that the permit limits for phenols and phenoxy- herbicides are in terms of mass flow rate.

    C

As you may know, the treatment of site wastewaters is done with a two- bed activated carbon system (arranged in series). The carbon is changed from the first bed when breakthrough of chlorinated phenols across the first bed reaches the low mg/1 level. Once the carbon is drummed out and replaced with fresh carbon, the previous "first bed" is reconfigured as the second bed in series and the "second bed" becomes the first bed.
