Here are few helpful phrases and military vocab that I use regularly here on the ground in Afghanistan. I have typed ِto indicate the (فاضا ) pronunciation (as in نمِ ردارب - bradar E man) . Any questions about the direct translation try a گن رف or google translate. In no way do I advocate the use of the offensive words, but as a well rounded soldier you need to be able to understand what is spoken to you. Here they are in no particular order.

Dari Greetings With Dari greetings, there are about 15 common greetings...and the trick is to rattle off about 4~8 in random order, all while the other person is doing the same. Then you can get into the specific conversation openers (hows the family, did you bring the keys, long time no see etc). --If you want to avoid sounding like an American tourist, skip the «Chiture hastee?» until later in the conversation. Rather, roll with a «bakhayr astee?» or a «janat jur ast? --Many of the following have similar or ambiguous meanings, but just combo a few together. --Its not as important to answer the questions in the first volley, as just to keep asking your own. --Also if the conversation gets slow, you can always say «diga + any phrase» as in (دMگ ?Another how are you doing (؟Mتس روطچ
