Dear residents and families, If you love being a part of the Heritage family, why not spread the word? We love when our residents and families refer their friends to one of our communities. And to show you just how much we appreciate it, we’ve created a new referral program, where the more friends you refer, the more you’ll be rewarded! Here’s how it works: For the first person you refer who moves into one of Heritage’s Assisted Living or Memory Care communities, you’ll receive a $500 credit on your next month’s rent. For the second person, you’ll receive a $1,000 credit ($1,500 total). And for three or more referrals, you’ll receive a $1,500 credit each ($3,000+ total)! If you have any questions about this new program or the terms and conditions, don’t hesitate to reach out to me. Become a Heritage ambassador by referring your friends today! Sincerely,
6234 Maywood Ave., Middleton, WI 53562 | 608-831-7004 | heritagesenior.com

Spring into Action with a Walking Program
With the weather gradually getting warmer and warmer, it’s a great time to shake off the winter blues and start a new exercise program! And there’s no better way to get some low-impact exercise – while enjoying nature – than by starting a walking program. Whether it’s just you and some friends – or a larger organized group of walkers – walking has some great benefits. Walking and being in nature are great mood-boosters. The more steps people take in a day, the better their moods
are, since walking releases mood-boosting endorphins. Plus, being in nature can help reduce stress and anxiety levels, while also improving sleep and creativity. Walking helps the heart. It improves circulation, decreases your chance of heart disease and lowers blood pressure. It’s also good for your joints and muscles. Walking helps lubricate joints, while also getting oxygen to the area. It also helps tone your leg and
abdominal muscles. Walking helps with weight loss. A 30-minute walk can burn about 200 calories.

Now that it’s finally spring, we can start enjoying all the great produce that ripens this time of year. Here are a few of my favorite spring fruits and vegetables to pick up. Artichokes. Although difficult to prepare (steaming them is a good option), artichokes offer plenty of fiber, as well as being high in vitamin C. They’re also one of the best sources of antioxidants. Apricots. This nutrient-packed
Fresh Spring Produce for a Healthy Diet
fruit is low in calories, high in vitamin C and carries plenty of vitamin A, which helps improve vision and skin health, while also boosting the immune system. Spinach. This leafy green is a real superfood, providing vitamins A, C, E, K and B6, as well as antioxidants, calcium, iron, potassium and more. Pineapple. Although not locally grown, pineapples are a great springtime choice.
They can help reduce joint and muscle inflammation – meaning they’re great for those with arthritis.

Easter Egg Hunt and Spring Party
On March 24, we held an intergenerational Easter egg hunt, where our residents and children from our intergenerational programming hunted for eggs, enjoyed a wonderful brunch made by our fantastic kitchen staff, and listened to piano music from Robert Aucherbach. Special thanks go to our Independent Living residents for dying our colorful centerpiece Easter eggs!
