Scottish Afternoon Quaich Winners
School News It is almost the end of another very busy and successful year at Her-
mitage Primary School. I hope you are enjoying our new school website
which we are refreshing regularly to keep you up to date . Thank you to
Mr Craig and Mrs Paterson who made this possible.
Our Scottish Afternoon was enjoyed by local church members, staff and
pupils. There was a variety of Scottish music, dancing and poems per-
formed. Well done to our two Quaich winners; Anna Besenyei P7 and
Kate MacKenzie P3.
We are delighted to report that Mr Mulvenna and the Eco committee
managed to keep our Green Flag for another year. Well done!
Once again we enjoyed a very successful and fun health week. Street
Dance classes provided by Mr & Mrs Joseph were very popular and
quite a favourite! Thank you to Mrs Trotter and Mr Caldwell for all their
hard work in putting together a fun-filled and thought provoking week’s
programme.
In February we enjoyed a whole school Science fair with children pre-
senting their work to the year below to give them a wee taste of what is
in store next year!
Our new pupils for primary one next have joined us for some afternoon
sessions and primary one teachers are impressed already!
Term 4 Newsletter May 2015
Sports News Twenty pupils from the badminton club entered the West Dunbar-
tonshire championships in March. They enjoyed a variety of singles
and doubles games with schools. The girls were particularly suc-
cessful with Anna Besenyei and Elinor Whyte winning the girls dou-
bles. The girls then went to Perth to play in the National finals in
April. Well done girls!
The football team enjoyed playing in the recent Christian Aid com-
petition where they were narrowly defeated in the semi-finals. I am
sure someone moved the goal posts!
The athletics team have won an amazing amount of medals and
trophies lately, the trophy cabinet is overflowing! At the Inter
School Cross Country P6 boys were 3rd, P7 girls and boys were
both 1st, at Helensburgh Toyota Cross Country the results were
the same. At the Primary School Athletics championships a variety
of medals were won across the disciplines. A very fit group of pu-
pils .
Drama Club Performance
Miss Barclay’s drama club practised all year for their production
“Tuishi Pamoja” and invited their parents in to school to watch
them. The school also enjoyed watching their dress rehearsal. A
great achievement in only one hour per week!
Pupil Council The Pupil Council held a talent
show in March for The Make A
Wish Foundation raising almost
£400. Well done to all the primary
seven pupil councillors for hosting
such a great show. Thank you to
all the performers and Miss Bar-
clay for their input too!
The Pupil Council also devised a
primary four to seven pupil audit
to seek pupil views on a range of
matters. They used ‘nearpod’ and
the i-pads and produced some
very interesting results. More out-
door education requested and
honey on the toast for snack!

amazing assembly based on
their topic of Egyptians. Par-

facts and drama all topic re-
lated by an enthusiastic
stage of pupils. Well done
primary three, you certainly
demonstrated your learning
very effectively!
Primary 7 Events
Primary seven pupils are ex-
tremely busy and very suc-
cessful recently. Thirty three
children won a variety of
maths awards in the Scottish
Mathematical Challenge and
silver and gold award win-
ners are looking forward to
going to Glasgow University
to collect their awards. The
bronze award winners will
have a special treat in
Helensburgh!
Last week proud parents
and grandparents came to
view the pupils’ modern art
pieces displayed in the
evening exhibition. Clever
ideas and profound words
could be found all over the
new music and drama
rooms. Well done to Mr
Redstone for all his mount-
ing of the art work!
Staff from the academy have
started visiting pupils in
preparation for their transi-
tion.

Reading Tutors
Our grateful thanks to the small band of church helpers who support pupils with their reading in
school. We are very grateful for your commitment to support again next session.
Moving Forward
Developments are still moving forward. Staff are very productive during in-service days and at
staff development sessions after school. Recently, staff updated the personal planners intro-
duced this session making changes to improve the quality of presentation and the information
provided to you as parents.
We have also developed our curriculum design during a few meetings and are making good pro-
gress with our plans for Curriculum for Excellence.
We are delighted to report that in moving our playground development forward we received
news that our bid for funding to provide the children with an outdoor gym is successful. Thank
you to Mrs Trotter and Mrs McMurdo for compiling the bid and to the Parent Council who are
providing half the funding.

Scotland’s Young Workforce”. Mrs Jackson presented the school’s work in this area to a confer-
