I am starting to print overdue

and fine reports. You will

notice that I cut them out for

you to give to students.

Please make sure to hand

them out to students in your

1st period. I usually put

them out on Friday mornings

but I had to help a lot of

students with projects Friday

so they are coming out on

Monday this week. Students

may renew books by coming

by the library. Overdue fines

are 10 cents a day.

Some of YOU have a lot

of overdues. You will get a

list, too. I can renew for you

but if you have lost the book,

just let me know. I need

accurate records in order to

maximize what the public

library will purchase for our

library.

Do you have students who do not

know the difference between

summarizing, paraphrasing, and

direct quotes? Do you have

students who use horrible

sources, but you don’t have time

to work with them individually?

Ask me and I will schedule a

PARTY for them...but this isn’t

any ol’ party—it is a LIBRARY

SUPPORT PARTY! At this

party, I work with individual and

small groups of struggling

students to improve their

research techniques and writing.

Of course, we eat some snacks,

too. If you wish, you can allow

the student to rewrite the paper

and either you or I can grade it. I

realize that you don’t have as

much time as you wish to work

with struggling students. Let me

help you! My first library

support party is next week with

Mrs. Oettel’s students. I’m

looking forward to it!

wikispaces for your website. I

really love glogster, and I hope

that you will consider using it! I

would love to take 5 minutes to

show your class how to use it. To

see an example, go here and you

will see a glogster poster on the

Revolutionary War. To find out

about glogster in general, go to

http://edu.glogster.com

Some of you are very creative

with the projects you give to

students. If you’d like to have

students “go green” and use their

creativity to create an online

poster, glogster is the way to go.

What is cool about glogster is

that students can be creative—

including images, video,

backgrounds, textboxes, etc. It’s

a great way for students to curate

and synthesize information. Also,

it is very easy to insert a glogster

poster into a wiki if you are using

It’s always a great day at

YOUR HFA library!

Mr. Ken Fieth, Metro Archivist, will

be discussing the Civil War in

Davidson County Thursday,

September 22nd, during lunch in the

lecture hall. He will be bringing a

LOT of artifacts, such as a cannon

ball, AMES sword, musket balls, and

1861 Springfield gun and bayonet. If

you are interested in local history or

the Civil War, do not miss this

event!!!!! He will start his

presentation at 11:50 and it will last

until 12:20. I am hoping for a BIG

Hume-Fogg welcome so that some of

his many friends might come present

here, as well. If you would like to give

extra credit to your students for

attending, let’s talk and figure out a

way to make that happen. Like I said, I

want a big crowd to experience this. I

mean, how many times do you get to

look at an 1861 Springfield when it

isn’t under lock and key?
