WALKING THE BIBLE . . . BECOMING PEOPLE OF THE TEXT ISRAEL/JORDAN STUDY TOUR WITH ERIC SCHROTENBOER
300 Cabana Blvd. #4108, Panama City Beach, FL 32407 www.theacaciaproject.com [email protected] 616.283.0362 tel
HIDING GOD’S WORD IN OUR HEART Because of the emphasis on scripture during this tour it is important to start memorizing it, or as the Bible says, “hiding it away in our hearts”. There was never a day in the life of Jesus, our Messiah, when He did not lift His hands toward heaven and declare to the Father Deuteronomy 6:4&5,
Shema Israel, Adonai elohenu, Adonai echad, Ve’ahavta et Adonai eloeikah, B’khol levavkah, Uve’khol naphshekah, Uve’khol m’odekah
Hear O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord Alone Love the Lord your God, With all your heart, With all your soul, And with all your might!
Please start hiding this scripture away in your heart in Hebrew and English. We will be using the “Shema” daily throughout our experience.

YOUR WORD IS A LAMP TO MY FEET AND A LIGHT TO MY PATH.
PSALM 119:105
In both Psalm 1 and Jeremiah 17 the Text talks about being rooted in the word. The image used is
that of the Acacia Tree, a tree that sends its roots to water deep under the earth and so is able to
grow, even thrive, in some of the most hostile desert; desert where virtually all other plants perish.
To desert people, no tree is more respected or valued than the Acacia for the Acacia provides food
and shade in a land that would otherwise burn and consume its inhabitants. Still today Bedouin in
the Middle East consider the Acacia a kind of oasis; a place of shade, rest, and life.
Join Eric on a journey where you will experience the Text in life changing ways. A journey
designed so that you become more deeply rooted in God’s Word, the true Living Water in order to
become what God visions us to be; a source of life to a hurting and broken world. Walk with Eric
along the “derech” - the Way as we study the lives of our ancestors of the faith and experience
God’s story in the lands of the Bible! Join the call God put on Abraham’s life: to be a blessing and
reflect God to the world. Walk in the footsteps of Abraham, Rachel, Moses, David, Herod, the
Disciples, and Paul all the while keeping one eye on the path and one eye in our Bibles. Learn how
God continually shaped these Biblical characters to become people of the text, (a life giving force to
those around them) bringing shalom, order, to their worlds; and how He intends to do the same with
us today.
Abraham Joshua Heschel once noted: “What the world needs is less text books and more text
people.” Like no other before him, Jesus epitomizes the Acacia Tree, the walk, a Text person.
Jesus call to all who desire to follow him is that we strive to be Text people. As we walk in the
footsteps of Jesus we will see how he lived out the text in both his teaching and actions and thereby
learn to be more like him. Our hope is that as we read the text in the land, what some call the 5th
Gospel, the scripture will come alive with the pictures God has painted in the text as we seek to
understand more fully the people, culture, and context of the land of the Bible.
As one Rabbi described the experience of walking the land, “The text goes from black and white, to
pages of vibrant color.” Colors that will only grow brighter as participants dive deeper into the text
years after returning home.
