The Green Team discusses areas related to the school’s Wellness Policy including nutrition, outdoor learning, and physical education. Please join us if you can by using this link. In addition, the week of September 27-October 1st is our “Week of Respect”. Teachers will be doing activities in the classroom which support a safe and respectful school environment. The week will end with the schoolwide Jog-A-Thon at Rita Cannan Elementary’s field on Friday, October 1. If you have ordered tick- ets, you will be receiving an email short- ly to follow up. The PTO is hard at work planning the Fall Festival and several Parent Night Out opportunities that will happen throughout the Fall in lieu of Brews and Bites. More information on these events will be released in the newsletter shortly, so keep an eye out. A Tenet of Maria Montessori’s philosophy was that children should be engaged in big work that gives them responsibility. Each child in our school is responsi- ble for helping to keep their class- rooms clean, to do tasks teachers or other adults may need help with, and for maintaining their own spaces. With great freedom comes great responsibility. We suggest that responsibility for helping and maintaining the envi- ronment should also extend to the home. We encourage everyone to involve children in household tasks like helping with preparing meals, cleaning up after themselves and pets, and helping out in whatever way works for your family. This week on Mystery Sci- ence we learned about sharks and whether or not they want to eat us. (They don't). We also are reading the novel “Frindle” as a class. I hope to see you at Montessori through my eyes. Montessori through My Eyes Sign up. We are still working on our studies of Space and our writing is coming along. If you would like to come in to help me hang some pictures, please let me know. Elementary Program Adolescent Creative Expression Hiking Class The Truckee River is a great way to cool off while exploring some trails next to the river. Jog-A-Thon Notes from the Elementary Team Primary Program Pine Nut Classroom Please remember to send silver- ware to school with your child each day! Candelaria Classroom Our annual Jog-A-Thon is a fun and fit activity for primary through 8th grade students. This is an adoles- cent program fundraising event with the majority of the funds going toward playground improvement and equipment. Previous years have helped to make our play- grounds what they are today. We hope that each family will participate in the Jog-A-Thon to the best of their ability. If each student earns $50, we will double our goal! We are hoping to make this Jog-A-Thon more successful than years past. The more contributions you and your family raise, the clos- er we will be to achieving our goal. Your child should come home with a pledge sheet. If you need an- other sheet, you can print one here. Challenge Island STEAM Camp available on the HDMS campus this fall break. Please see their website for details. Lunch Pouches are Back! In the hopes to reduce plastic waste- we, Adolescent students from the microeconomy class, are selling lunch pouches for our school! Pouch includes: A tie-dyed cloth (dyed by students) A fork and spoon A personalized and easy to clean wa- terproof pouch to hold the items The lunch pouch costs $7 and an extra $3 for mini utensils. An added donation would also be greatly appreciated! order form here. Thank you for supporting our business and school! With the over- whelming suc- cess of our FUNDrive last year, the PTO will be hosting another drive this winter. If you are cleaning out closets this fall to prepare for win- ter, please con- sider holding on- to unwanted clothes to do- nate. Proceeds go directly to HDMS. We will be collecting after the Christ- mas break through January 21st. More infor- mation to come closer to the event. Leveled Readers If anyone has any books that look like this on the back, they are part of leveled sets that we use for instruction. We would really appreci- ate it if they were returned to school. This is a game where the children select a word and then determine what part of speech it would be and then make silly sentences. What a fun way to practice grammar! Miles D. and Michael A. Trace the continents to make a book of the continents. Many of the materials in the classroom are used in multiple ways throughout the child's education. The puzzle maps now become a tool for learning the nomenclature, spelling, and the relationships between continents and coun- tries on Earth in Lower El. Children of Candelaria baked bread this week! There are a few kindergarten girls who are look- ing to form a Girl Scouts daisy troop after school. If you are interested in being a girl-Scout troop leader please contact Autumn Reeder and she can help you through the process. She will also volunteer her room for your meetings if needed. [email protected] Children’s Choir for Lower El Students The study and performance of music can inspire mind and spirit; build self-esteem, self-confidence, and teach disciplines critical to academics and all other forms of achievement. Students will learn to sing in a group setting that is safe and supportive. Miss Keishla has a Master in Music in Violin Performance and over 10 years of educa- tion experience. Her mission is to nurture the intellectual, emotional, and cultural development of children through the study and perfor- mance of music. Notes from the PTO

We are sad to announce that this years Brews and Bites event will be postponed until Fall 2022. If you have ordered tick-ets, you will be receiving an email short-

ly to follow up. The PTO is hard at work planning the Fall Festival and several Parent Night Out opportunities that will happen throughout the Fall in lieu of Brews and Bites. More information on these events will be released in the newsletter shortly, so keep an eye out.

A Tenet of Maria Montessori’s philosophy was that children should be engaged in big work that gives them responsibility.

Each child in our school is responsi-ble for helping to keep their class-rooms clean, to do tasks teachers or other adults may need help with, and for maintaining their own spaces. With great freedom comes

great responsibility.

We suggest that responsibility for helping and maintaining the envi-ronment should also extend to the

home. We encourage everyone to involve children in household tasks like helping with preparing meals, cleaning up after themselves and
