How to use the RTM professional torch

Dear Customer:

Thank you for choosing RTM products.

For qualified torches, the flame temperature is inversely high proportional to the heating time,

noise and gas consumption, that is to say: to obtain the desired heat in a relatively short time,

with its lowest gas consumption and noise, during which, especially when it’s a stable long-time

flaming, the tip temperature is an important parameter to evaluate the quality of the torch.

There are some essential differences between traditional oxygen-acetylene torch and

single-gas torch.

For the former: the fuel and oxygen adjust themselves to get the proper ratio to burn, to reach

the welding temperature, the flame is burning outside the tip, therefore the tip temperature is only

from radiant heat.

The single-gas torch is using the oxygen in the air to support combustion, to meet the welding

temperature, which relies on inhaling air automatically when the fuel goes through the nozzle with

a relatively high velocity, therefore the tip temperature is totally dependent on the air flow.

When the valve opens too small, due to the lower air velocity at the nozzle, less air is inhaled,

the needs of combustion can not be met, so the flame is burning inside the nozzle, in this

situation, it will not only fail to reach the welding temperature, but also make the tip burn red,

even worse the automatic-ignition system and bronze head burn down. When the valve opens too

big, due to the too high air velocity at the nozzle, too much air is taken in, in this situation, it will

leave the flame burning far from the nozzle, a "fire off" phenomenon, because the inhalation of too

much cold air, the nozzle’s tip temperature gets down instead. Since the flame is dispersed, on

the one hand it wastes the fuel, on the other hand it reduces the welding temperature.

After igniting, if the valve opening is adjusted correctly, you will get the right flame as a

"writing-brush shape", the flame is burning at the nozzle’s outlet, tip’s temperature is at 60 ~ 80oC.

When the flame is dispersed, which indicates the valve opens too big, the tip is cold; when the

flame is elongated, internal and external flames are indistinct, the flame is burning inside the tip,

it can easily cause the red-hot tip, and even worse the burned-down ignition system.

To weld small-diameter pipes, adjusting the valve opening to get smaller flame can not be

adopted, a substituted smaller nozzle assembly is advised in the situation. The easiest way is

moving the flame away from the object or using the propane gas cylinder.

How to use the RTM professional torch

Generally speaking, fresh users will adjust valve opening smaller, thinking that it can save gas,

however that is bound to take more time for welding and even worse damage the torch. For

example, to weld Ф40 joint, under normal circumstances, it takes less than a minute, which can

not overheat or damage the tip. When manufacturers experiment on torch models at factory, they

let one whole cylinder of gas burn completely to test its basic functions, it will last 160 minutes

or more to test the stability and other parameters.

RTM Advanced Design

Reasonable secondary liquid-gas separation device (Efficiency)

The pressure reducing device of the RTM hand torch is independently installed in the brass

shell with needle assembly and decompression assembly separately. It uses austenitic stainless

steel for critical parts, which helps to prevent the corrosion from detrimental impurities. The

sufficient space in needle assembly allows the secondary liquid-gas separation device to be

easily settled inside and thoroughly gasify the residual liquid, which ensures the stability of the

combustion and maximize the thermal efficiency. Instead, other brands just install the secondary

separation device in the front of the nozzle since they use valve core and valve components to

replace RTM needle assembly, resulting in insufficient space for the device. It has following two

disadvantages:

1. The inadequate gasification of the residual liquid will cause the blocking nozzle;

2. The inadequate gasification of the detrimental impurities will cause the corrosion of the nozzle,

resulting in lower welding temperature and thermal efficiency.

Solid liner material (safety)

The minimum thickness of RTM torch liner is 1.4mm while other brands only have 0.3mm.The

tensile strength will be decreased after stretching and there might be security risks for the thin

liner expose to the pressure inside the cylinder (20 oC ≧ 1Mpa).

Proper valve switch design, 100% spring reset and cut off the gas channel (safety)

The reaction force spring assist design in RTM valve switch guarantee the 100% reset and

shutdown even if it can not close smoothly by various complex factors. But for other brand

torches the flame will not shutdown after releasing the switch in such situation and it has a

certain risk when facing of unconventional welding conditions such as gas leakage.

RTM Advanced Features

High Efficiency

Firstly, to avoid the defect in the surface, there is enough nitrogen up to 70%-80% which can

keep away from the oxygen, and the carbon monoxide in the welding surface will reducation the

heated metal, improving the soldering quality.

Secondly, for the hot value, example of our RTM-030 that is 13670BTU/hour with the five swirl

flame, much higher than other brands.

Lastly, absolutly using of the gas, in terms of the design of “L” type hole in the bottom side,

RTM torch can still consume the gas even if there is few in the bottle with low pressure.

Almightiness

Firstly, flexible adjustment of the flame can meet the different requirement of soldering metal.

Minimize to reduce the solder flow out, and avoiding the weld porosity, slag inclusion and surface

crack.

Lastly, available choice for tip size, diameter 9.7mm is suitable for welding 25mm copper tube,

diameter 11.5mm for the 32mm copper tube, double tube torch is for diameter 50mm copper, triple

tube is for the diameter 100mm copper tube.
