Successfulness is influenced significantly by speed achievement. Within the team there are significant differences. These results depend on position, tactical task or the individual fitness level. According to Ilan Liebners researches the following results can be found.

In 2005/06, the average EPL midfielder ran 11.49 kilometres per game. The average EPL centre-back covered 9.96 kilometres per game. From the article we can read the following text. "The average distance covered by players in matches has changed little [between 2002 and 2006] but the amount done at top speed has almost doubled. What ProZone class as high-intensity activities runs made by players at three-quarters of sprint pace or faster have increased from 627 per team per match in 2002-03 to 1,209 in 2005-06, and the ground covered by players while sprinting has increased by 40% over four years. A sprint is classed as a run made at quicker than seven metres per second, equivalent to running 100m in a sharp 14 seconds.Because of the bigger dynamics the game will be faster, there will be more contacts among football players so the tactical requirements have to be executed faster. The motto is the following:

Who makes fewer mistakes, that team will be the winner.

Because of these reasons the complex evaluation is necessary in speed work. It is not solution to concentrate only one thing so we must take more viewpoints into consideration.

The one of the most important viewpoints is that the number of fast repetitions is growing and growing. In matches of Top teams footballers usually perform fast work in every 40-50 sec.

2006. Champions League. The full backs speed work. (15 min). The better a team is, the more high intensive movements can be found. According to Bangsbo who compared the achievements of Italian and Danish champions, the result was that the Italian players performed more than 25% fast work. For this reason they also held possession of the ball more and kept the match better under their control than the opponent.
