Authentic learning should not be limited to 43 minutes per day, five days per week, for 189 days, yet traditional school schedules force such time constraints on learning. This is no lon- ger the reality at Hanover High School. Through the introduction of “Hybrid” classes, or “Blended Learn- ing,” Hanover High School has broken down these weight-bearing walls to allow students the flexibility to learn at their own pace, with as much support as they need to be successful. Hybrid courses contain web-based learning activities that complement face-to-face instruc- tion, and “seat time” is reduced, allowing more flexibility in how students choose to use their learning time. The instructors of the hybrid cours- es determine which activities can be completed online, and which activities students must complete face-to-face in the class- room. For example, stu- dents who are caught up and have completed all on- line assignments, and have maintained a minimum course grade of 80%, may be assigned to the class- room for only three days of the six day cycle. The other three days can be used to work on projects, get extra help from a teacher in a different class, etc. Students are free to take advantage of all of the opportunities Hanover High School has to offer. Hybrid courses to be offered in the 2017-18 school year include Environmental Science, Bi- ology, Statistics, World History, Early Childhood Development, Art, Music Theory, Health, and Physical Education. Coaches’ Awards Presented at the Booster Banquet

the 2016-17 sports’ year was filled with memorable moments. early in the Fall, the Nighthawk volleyball team, led by a fantastic group of seniors booked anoth-er trip to the district tournament. Lexi Daley earned in-dividual honors as she was selected 1st team all-state by the Pa Volleyball Coaches association! also having successful Fall campaigns were girls’ tennis, boys’ soc-cer, football, and field hockey who finished above .500 and just outside the district playoffs.

During the winter season, the girls’ basketball team led the way by qualifying for the district tourna-ment and hosting a first round playoff game. Justin Barnes and trayton wolf qualified for the district wres-tling tournament and represented hanover by com-peting at the giant Center! also at the giant Center, senior Madison Maloney was selected by the Piaa to sing the national anthem at the boys’ basketball 5a and 6a state championship games.

spring sports brought us the opportunity to show-case the new softball field that transcends the view on campus behind the Middle school. One of the most memorable moments of the year came at the grand opening for the field when the softball team scored 7 runs in the final frame! New coaching staffs were also prevalent in the spring as the boys’ tennis, baseball, and softball teams had success in rebuilding years as new coaches put the pieces in place to build win-ning programs. individual honors were also achieved by everett kenworthy who qualified for the District 3 championships in the 110m and 300m hurdles.

the year concluded with the 59th annual all-sports banquet where 3-sport stars Lexi Daley and hunter Martz were named the 2016-17 hanover athletes of the year. thank you all for the support and we are looking forward to the 2017-18 athletic year!
