Theory of Knowledge (TOK)

■ interdisciplinary

■ explores the nature of knowledge across disciplines

■ encourages an appreciation of other cultural perspectives

■ 100 hours of instruction over 2 years

The Extended Essay (EE)

■ has a prescribed limit of 4,000 words

■ investigates a topic of individual interest

■ requires independent research & writing skills expected at university

■ represents 40 hours of individual work over 2 years.

IB Costs - current-Grade 9 and 10 ALP – no cost-Grade 11 and 12 IB Diploma $1250 per year ($1250 total)(Exam Registration, Textbooks, Training, Course Materials, IB Experiences, ManageBac, Study Guides, etc…)- These prices may change depending on the

canadian dollar and rising IB costs

✓ Students can take Civics and Careers (a required Gr. 10 Course) online in the summer to allow for another elective course in their Gr. 10 year

Transportation – Currently, HDSB does NOT provide bussing for IB or ISP students.

Parents can visit www.haltonbus.ca and use the ‘Am I eligible for bussing’? Tool

GDHS cannot arrange carpools on behalf of parents due to privacy guidelines.

✓ Complete ONLINE Registration form

✓ Copy Gr. 7 Final Report (and Gr. 8 Progress Report when you get it) and send to Mr. Stewart

✓ Registrants will be contacted in December through email

Important Dates• December 7, 2018– Last day to submit Registration to be part

of the September 2018 Grade 9 ALP Class.

• By December 21, 2018 – Notification of Acceptance to ALP sent by email to successful registrants with instructions for Memorandum of Understanding .

• Month of January 2019 – Students complete option sheets at their grade 8 school for GDHS.

• February 1, 2018 - last day to notify GDHS via Memorandum of Understanding that student will be attending ALP in September 2019.
