PLAYABLE CHARACTERS

ACESTRIKER (David Donovan), the main character, is the younger brother of Nightrage, a deceased famous hero. He has a distinctive streak of white hair and wears a leather jacket. His superpowers are superhuman strength, mastery of combat techniques and superhuman reflexes.

Despite his avenger look and his tough attitude, Acestriker is a true leader, capable of the most heroic actions just to defend justice.

TITAN GIRL (Claudia Gardner) is an intelligent student capable of building and handling the most powerful titanium machines. She can shoot powerful rockets and laser beams with her equipment. She’s naïve and innocent, but she also has an immense destructive power, and as any girl of her age, has a crush on his sports teacher, Mister Victory.

Titan Girl is always teased by Mental Master for being the best student in Admiral Comet's School, but she also mocks Mental Master for his short height.

MENTAL MASTER (Henry Nolan Jr.) is a young mentalist with telekinetic and psychic powers. He’s the son of one of the High School teacher’s, Lord Arcanus, and hates being called Arcanus Jr. He’s sarcastic and a little bit of a buffoon, but he’s also a loyal and kind hearted hero.

UNIQUE SELLING POINTS

There are four essential features in this game:

Everybody loves everyday superheroes Three Playable Characters Completely Different Levels IP potential

Everybody loves everyday superheroes

It may sound simple, but it’s also true: teenager superheroes (those with emotional problems, insecurities and acne) instantly attract a wide audience, especially kids and teenagers. Furthermore, the heroes of our game are teen superheroes, characters that the younger audiences could identify with. This makes “High School Heroes” almost a sure bet, due to the inherent success of the superhero genre.

Three Playable Characters

In “High School Heroes”, there’ll be three playable characters, each one impersonating a superhero cliché: Acestriker uses physical powers (like Batman or Spiderman), Titan Girl uses mechanical powers (in the fashion of Iron Man) and Mental Master uses mystic and psychic powers (like Dr. Strange or Psylocke). This adds three different ways of playing the game, and the possibility of switching between characters.

Page 6: High School Heroes GDD v2.0 REVISED

20

Completely different Levels

Not all the action in “High School Heroes” takes place in the close environment of the High School. In fact, all the missions (stages of the game) will take place in completely different settings, like an abandoned amusement park, an alien space battleship, a modern skyscraper, a different dimension or even inside the human body. All these based in superheroic clichés.

If there’s a characteristic that defines the superhero genre is its ability to easily expand and grow. In fact, many of the most successfully commercial comic books are spin offs or sequels to other comic book series. That’s the reason why the IP of “High School Heroes” has enormous potential.

There is the possibility to develop several sequels and prequels, by adding new mechanics and new characters. Some of these titles could be: “Superhero University” (continuing the story of our main three characters) or “High School Heroes Beyond” (set in a futuristic high school with a new bunch of heroes)… Some other content based on “High School Heroes” could be DLC’s, adding new missions, characters, or school quests

Also, in order to reinforce the IP, several projects could be developed, like small scoped games for Kinect or PS Move focusing on other characters, like "Hero Battles" (1 vs 1 combats between the school teachers) or shorter, smaller adventures of our three main characters for XBLA

and PSNetwork.

For a greater visibility of the IP, we could also launch a small puzzle game set in the game universe and also using the game characters. The title could be "Puzzle Heroes", and be launched for iOS and Android devices.

BENCHMARK

“Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2”

(Xbox 360, PS3)

The gameplay in “Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2” is quite similar to “High School Heroes” (many playable characters, each one with his own skills, different settings on each level, level upgrades). The difference with our game is the innovative core (the High School) of our game.

Also, in "Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2", the selected heroes are not relevant, due to the fact that there are many selectable characters. In "High School Heroes", each hero will have his unique abilities and skills, and they'll be key to progress in the game.

“Bully: Canis Canem Edit”

(Xbox 360)

“Bully” has all the school clichés as well as classes and

grades through the game. The school part of “High School Heroes” will resemble “Bully”. Of course, our game has another game part, which is the Superheroic Missions. Most important, “Bully” is NOT based on a consolidated IP or franchise.

"Bully" also is directed to a more mature audience, due to his explicit violence and sometimes strong language. "High School Heroes" will be oriented to younger and broader audiences than "Bully".

Page 8: High School Heroes GDD v2.0 REVISED

20

VISUAL STYLE

“High School Heroes” has a visual style close to American comic books, but trying to avoid a cartoon or childish look. That’s because it allows us to reach the younger audiences, but also differences our game from the extremely realistic license-based superhero games.

STORY MODE

The Story Mode will propose different kinds of gameplay depending on where the action takes place. The main game will be divided in different superhero assignments, called MISSIONS. This is the beat em’up core of the game with a tag team component. So, you can switch between characters on the fly and combine each superhero unique abilities (super strength, telekinesis, rockets...) to defeat your opponents in a rock paper scissor tactical approach.

But there'll be also a huge amount of content in THE SCHOOL. An adventure and exploration game in an open (but limited) environment where the player will navigate freely with plenty of NPC’s to interact with. In the school, the player will have to attend classes, collect items, raise the level of their superpowers, etc

Page 9: High School Heroes GDD v2.0 REVISED

19

GAMEPLAY (MISSIONS)

The beat’em up is the core gameplay of “High School Heroes”. In these sections, the player will control one of the three main heroes, and will be able to switch between characters whenever he wants. He will have to combine their powers to defeat the different enemies and Final Bosses.

Each character will have four types of attacks: Medium Attack Strong Attack Area Attack Long Range Attack

There will be two indicators of the player’s stamina. One is the HEALTH BAR (orange), which shows how much health the character has left until falling unconscious. The other will be the HEROISM BAR (blue) which shows how much energy the player has left to use his superpowers.

Page 10: High School Heroes GDD v2.0 REVISED

20

ACESTRIKER

Acestriker is fast in hand to hand combat. Although his attacks are less powerful that Titan Girl’s, he can do more attacks per second.

He’s not capable of attacking at long range, except for himself making a dash toward his opponent.

He’s the fastest of the three. He would be similar to a AD&D or WoW Rogue

MENTAL MASTER

Mental Master is the most powerful in long range attacks. He’s very weak in hand to hand combat. He is the less resistant to damage of the three. He has medium speed. He would be similar to a AD&D or WoW Mage.

TITAN GIRL

Titan Girl is the most powerful in hand to hand combat. She does medium damage at long range. She’s the most resistant to damage. She is the slowest of the three She would be similar to a AD&D or WoW Warrior.

ENEMIES

As we mention above the beat’em up combat in HSH will have a thrilling rock-paper-scissor approach to add a new layer in the action. The enemies will have different strong and weak points (damage resistance) against main character superpowers (type of damage).

Page 11: High School Heroes GDD v2.0 REVISED

NORMAL SIZE

BIG SIZE ARMOR PLATED MECHANICAL

HUMANLIGHT PLATED ON FOOT

FLOATING

So, the player will have to choose the correct tactic against each kind of enemy to defeat him: mental powers doesn’t work against mechanical foes, area attacks works well against multiple enemies, floating enemies will be beaten by long range attacks, mental attacks pass through energy shields...

All the beat’em up gameplay that takes place outside the school will be divided in different levels called MISSIONS, each one divided in different sub levels called SECTIONS, being the core a beat’em up game style with some easy puzzle sections, quick time events and (time to time) some school minigames contextualized to fit into a Mission.

The Missions will have a thrilling story behind involving our main characters and a wide range of interesting villains to fight against. Here are the mission development proposal and walkthroughs.

THE SCHOOL (MAIN HUB)

Admiral Comet’s High School Heroes will be set a vast area in which the player will move freely completing secondary tasks to raise his abilities, in order to progress in the Missions (different levels in Story Mode) and complete the game.

The High School will be divided in several areas, and different actions will be performed in each area. These areas are the following:

CLASS BLOCKS

The classes in High School Heroes are quite different from the classes in regular schools. In these blocks, the player will go to attend the different theory classes.

This goes from Advanced Technology, in which Titan Girl will have to build complex machines, to Mental Prowess, in which Mental Master will have to read the mind of different living creatures.

TEACHER'S ROOMS

Every teacher will have his own room, and there, they’ll assign secondary missions to the students. By completing those missions, the students will become the Teacher’s Pet, and become more popular in the school.

Page 24: High School Heroes GDD v2.0 REVISED

20

LIBRARY

All kind of data and statistics

obtained in the game, as the profile of every teacher and villain, will be stored in the School Library. Here is also where the Crossover! ™ (a turn based strategy game) Club Room is. There, the player will play Crossover!™ against other students.

The Simulation Machine is also in the Library. This device allows the player to replay all the Sections of a completed Mission in order to collect items and raise our heroes’ level.

AVENGERBALL FIELD AND SCHOOL GYM

In the Gym, the player will train the physical powers of the students in the practice classes, in order to train and upgrade the

player’s statistics. Also, in the Heroball field, the players will have

different minigames related to Avengerball, the superhero sport.

STUDENT'S DORM

Whenever the player wants to change the appearance of their heroes, he’ll have different costumes to choose (unlockable through the game) here, until obtaining the three superhero suits for the three main characters. There’s also here where the player will see his Herobook profiles (a Facebook-like application, but for superheroes)

CLASSES (SCHOOL MINIGAMES)

The classes will be available all the time for the different characters. Each character has its own class to attend to. There’ll be different levels of difficulty for each class. Every time a test or project is passed, the player’s stats will raise.

These classes will give the players status in the School, in order to become more popular and obtain collectable items. The gameplay of these classes are minigames based on variations of Quick Time Events (like the minigames in “Fable II” or “Bully: Scholarship Edition”).

MECHANICS

Acestriker will have to use his technical skills to fix and tune

Page 25: High School Heroes GDD v2.0 REVISED

19

different superheroic vehicles, like Nightrage’s motorbike, the Comet Car or the Defenderjet.

MENTAL PROWESS

Mental Master will have to complete several psychic tasks, like reading minds, opening dimensional rifts or talking to Astral Beings.

GADGET BUILDING

Titan Girl will have to build hi-tech machines, like a bionic arm, a night vision Helmet or a Spectral Laser.

COMBAT TRAINING ROOM

Combat Training will take place in the School Gym, this gym works like the X-Men’s Danger Room. Here, the player will improve the stats and abilities of the three main characters in order to make it easier to progress through the game.

SPARRING ROOM

Acestriker, Titan Girl and Mental Master will improve his combat stats against robotic opponents, and raising his fighting skills. While the player progresses in the game, the robotic opponents will become more powerful.

OVERWPOWER ROOM

The three main characters will use their powers with no

Heroism Bar restriction in order to complete some challenges and upgrade their abilities fighting against robotic opponents.

NPC's AND COLLECTABLE ITEMS

The other students in the school will be divided in different student teams, each one being a high school stereotype, from the nerdy League of Losers, the geeks of Generation Future or the jocks of Strong Inc. All these students will also give you secondary missions, like defending a nerdy sidekick from the school super-bullies, or helping the School delegate to be reelected again.

If you fulfill their request,

they’ll probably add you as friends in Herobook, accept your Crossover! ™ challenges, play with you an Avengerball match, or vote for you as Prom King.
