TYPES OF HIGH SCHOOLS
1) Comprehensive Large School (~1,500 students) Variety of courses offered (Advanced
Placement, honors, different languages) Sports Teams Academies – rigorous “schools within schools”
that focus on careers Oakland High, Oakland Tech, Skyline, Fremont
2- Small School Smaller Class Sizes Less students at school Some have specific focuses (Example- health,
biology, arts) Same Graduation Requirements as Large Schools Castelemont, CCPA, Life Academy, McClymonds,
Met West, Oakland International
3- Charter School Public school not under Oakland Unified Requires Application Smaller class sizes and student population Each school has their own restrictions on
graduation requirements. Check with their websites to find more information
