Two Wheel Types in the Roller Bearing Carriage

Eccentric wheels, which allow the play between the carriage and the profile to be removed.

Concentric wheels, which take the majority of the load.

Each wheel consists of a polyamide tread surrounding a sealed bearing. No lubrication is required.

High Performance Linear ActuatorsHigh Performance Linear Actuators

The HPLA was designed to create the next generation mechanical platform with optimized performance in size 80, 120 and 180 profiles:

Provide options for bearing technology– Extrusion allows steel inlays to be

inserted– Inlays are running surface for steel wheel

Maximize traction force – Upsize belts and pulleys

– 80=>25AT10, 120=>32AT10, 180=>56AT20

– Allow much higher belt tension– Choice of pulley on gearhead or hollow

shaft Provide options for drive technology

– Size 180: belt or internal rack & pinion– Size 120: belt– Size 80: belt and future rack drive

Sales scenarios: HLE vs. StarSales scenarios: HLE vs. Star

Star sells direct and through distribution Known for deep discounting at OEM accounts Strong reputation for well engineered quality

product Supplying systems / specials in addition to

actuators Star advantages:

Excellent range of product High strength / stiffness from square rail bearings Wider belt Have rack & pinion drive available Vertically integrated / economical Can sell down to component level (bearings, etc.)

Page 72: High Speed Automation and Gantry Robots Selectable Levels Of Integration

Sales scenarios: HLE vs. StarSales scenarios: HLE vs. Star

Bearing battle: Star attacks composite wheel concept HPLA & HLE-SR gives us ability to play both sides We recognize need for application solving choices

– HLE + higher speed capability (up to 5m/sec)– HLE + no periodic maintenance– HLE + quiet running– HLE + no particle generation– HLE / HPLA offers 3 bearing choices

– composite wheels– square rail bearing in 60 and 100 profiles– steel wheels on steel inlay with HPLA

Page 73: High Speed Automation and Gantry Robots Selectable Levels Of Integration

Sales scenarios: HLE vs. StarSales scenarios: HLE vs. Star

HLE selling checklist: HLE systems brochure shows credibility on systems

– Pre-engineering to save time and money– At a glance system pricing sheet

HLE CD - photos, video to prove experience HLE industry leading technical manuals

– OEMs can pass along documentation in their binders– Electronic version gives hyperlinked index– Documentation available in some foreign languages

HLE is serviceable– Factory training is available on-site to OEM accounts– Belt replacement on Star unit requires removal of payload– Belt tensioning for Star requires expensive calibrated tool

Mechanical sizing software Parametric CAD drawing generator

Page 74: High Speed Automation and Gantry Robots Selectable Levels Of Integration

Sales scenarios: HLE vs. StarSales scenarios: HLE vs. Star Approval drawing with every system to ensure

correctness– appeal to engineer who likes to be “covered”

Strip seal with IP30 rating– keeps fingers out of mechanism (OEMs like this)

HPLA / specialty products add application solving dimension

– rack & pinion options for multiple bridges or long travel Selectable levels of integration

– Use Parker power as an unfair advantage– Special requirements - no problem– Single source

Proven technology - thousands of installations worldwide

Local support / global support Factory application support

Page 75: High Speed Automation and Gantry Robots Selectable Levels Of Integration

If you can’t beat ‘em,If you can’t beat ‘em,

• When a customer specs a HPLA120 they have a technology migration path to linear motor!• Selectable levels of product can be a huge selling edge

Page 76: High Speed Automation and Gantry Robots Selectable Levels Of Integration

Sales Scenarios: HLE vs. GudelSales Scenarios: HLE vs. Gudel

Gudel sells direct, through reps and through approved system integrators

Known for heavy duty gantry systems and innovative rack / bearing building block

Especially strong in machine loaders / unloaders

Gudel advantages: Huge load capacities / rock solid stiffness Rack / bearing assembly can be integrated easily

into OEM machinery such as loaders for machine tool or molding machine

Perception of heavy duty durability is attractiveto industrial customers

Page 77: High Speed Automation and Gantry Robots Selectable Levels Of Integration

Sales Scenarios: HLE vs. GudelSales Scenarios: HLE vs. Gudel

HLE selling checklist vs. Gudel: Gudel rack needs adjusted / lubricated frequently HLE external drive or traction drive is maintenance

free Gudel bearings need lubricated frequently HLE plastic wheels are maintenance free Gudel rack & pinion is open to contamination / pinch

point HPLA rack & pinion is only product with strip seal

covering rack & pinion assembly Gudel gantry systems are extremely heavy…bottom

axis motor / drive needs to be larger Name dropping…USPS automation is pretty high

profile and carries a lot of credibility

Page 78: High Speed Automation and Gantry Robots Selectable Levels Of Integration

Sales Scenarios: HLE vs. Arm RobotsSales Scenarios: HLE vs. Arm Robots

Arm robots are sold primarily through system integrators and direct

The ultimate system solution…easy to use Selling strategy vs. arm robot:

1) Price 2) exploit form factor advantages HLE gantry robots allow robot integrators the

opportunity to have low cost solution for cost conscious prospects such as food and beverage Target their application engineers so we get considered on

jobs instead of “no-quote”

Page 79: High Speed Automation and Gantry Robots Selectable Levels Of Integration

Key differentiators versus arm robots: More economical Larger work area Better floor space utilization Multiple bridges can serve same work area Better for servicing multiple machines /

conveyors Better handling of awkward or large sized

payloads Why spend $150K on an arm robot?!

Sales Scenarios: HLE vs. Arm Robots
