2003 Catalysts Catalysts H 2000 High Temperature Preparation of Vanadium Phosphate Catalysts Using Water as Solvent. — High surface area catalysts comprising (VO) 2 P 2 O 7 and α II -VOPO 4 are pre- pared from aqueous mixtures of V2O5, H3PO4, and H3PO3, or V2O5, H4P2O7, and H3PO3 (autoclave, 145 °C, 72 h). The samples are characterized by powder XRD, BET surface area measurements, Raman spectroscopy, TGA, electron microscopy, and 31 P NMR. They exhibit catalytic activities and selectivities comparable to vanadium phosphate catalysts prepared using non-aqueous solvents. It is concluded that non-aqueous sol- vents and reducing agents are not required to produce highly active catalysts and, with further optimization, the use of aqueous methodology is expected to yield significantly improved catalysts. — (LOPEZ-SANCHEZ, J.
