HIGHAM HALLAn Educational Trust providing short courses for adults of all ages

A company Limited by Guarantee and registered in England, number 06421365, charity number 1124959

Principal’s WelcomeHigham is possibly now the only college of its kind in the northern British Isles, and our range of courses of different lengths covers the following broad areas: ART, CRAFTS, HUMANITIES, PASTIMES, PERFORMING ARTS, SCIENCES, WORDS. With our residential facility, we attract leading tutors and enthusiastic students from afar, as well as those more local to us.

One of the major factors in Higham’s success is our simplicity: We offer enjoyable experiences based on traditional values of learning in a characterful, historic building with comfortable accommodation and highly-praised food.

The secret is known by those who already come, who inevitably return (some often) but it is also essential that we continually attract new people to enjoy what we offer. This is one of the major functions of this brochure - it gives an opportunity to share what Higham is with those who have never heard of us.

We will continue to fly the flag for independent lifelong learning because we are able to as a self-sustaining charitable educational trust. Higham is funded entirely by those who come - we receive no subsidy. But this independence works well. There are not many places like us around, hence why we are valued so highly by those who come on our courses and those amazing individuals who teach for us.

Thank you for your interest in what we do and for sharing what we are.

George Cooke – Principal

H1609JS THE ENGLISH CIVIL WARS 1641-165418:30 Sun 18 September - 13:30 Wed 21 SeptemberThe Wars of the Three Kingdoms 1641-58 were a period of immense change in the polity of Britain, arguably the most profound in the 800 years of our democratic process. In terms of the scale of casualties the wars were, pro rata, more costly than the Great War. The Civil Wars made modern Britain.
