Liturgy of the Word FIRST READING (Sirach 44:10-15) Monica Rooney A Reading from the Book of Sirach. Here is a generous woman, whose good works have not been forgotten. In her descendants there remains a rich inheritance born of her. They stand by the covenants and, thanks to her, So do her children’s children. Her offspring will last forever, Her glory will not fade. Her body is buried in peace And her name will live on for generations. The people will proclaim her wisdom, The assembly will celebrate her praises. The Word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM TIS: 659; Words: Psalm 23 . Music: Brian Boniwell © 1949. Arr: Kevin Hunt

The Lord is My Shepherd

The Lord is my Shepherd, and I want to follow,

Wherever he leads me, wherever he goes; Over the mountains, the waters and byways, Valleys and highways, he’s waiting form me.

Page 8: Hilary Joseph Rooney - tobinbrothers.com.au · for celebrating Hilary’s life with us. We will always be grateful for your wonderful support, friendship and love. 5th January 1950

I want to go to meet him there, to lay myself down in his love.

The Lord is my Shepherd, and I want to follow, wherever he leads me, wherever he goes.

And while on the journey, to where we are going,

He promised to be there, to help us along; And over the mountains we’ll walk on together,

To know all the wonders he’s given to me.

SECOND READING (Timothy 4:6-8) Anthony Rooney A Reading from the Second Letter of St Paul to Timothy. As for me, the hour has come for me to go and the time is here for me to leave this life. I have fought the good fight to the end; I have run the race to the finish; I have kept the faith. And now, the prize of victory is waiting for me, the crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give to me on that Day; and the Lord will rescue me from all evil, and take me safely into his heavenly Kingdom. And not only me, but all those who have longed for his Appearing. To him be glory for ever and ever! The Word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God.

Peace Prayer of St Francis

Make me a channel of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow your love,

Where there is injury, your pardon, Lord, And where there’s doubt, true faith in you.

Make me a channel of your peace. Where there’s despair in life, let me bring hope.

Where there is darkness, only light, And where there’s sadness, ever joy.

O Master grant that I may never seek, So much to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand,

To be loved as to love with all my soul.

Make me a channel of your peace, It is in pardoning that we are pardoned. In giving to ourselves that we receive,

And in dying that we’re born to eternal life. PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION Fr Andrew: Lord God, your Son, Jesus Christ, gave us his body and

blood to guide us on our pilgrim way to your Kingdom. May Hilary, our sister, who shared in this Eucharist, come to the banquet of life that Christ promised for us.

We ask this prayer through Christ our Lord.

All: Amen.

FINAL COMMENDATION Fr Andrew: Trusting in God, we have prayed together for Hilary, and

now we come to our last farewell. There is sadness in parting, but we take comfort in the hope that one day we shall see our sister, Hilary, again, and enjoy her friendship. Although we will disperse in sorrow, God will gather us together in the joy of his Kingdom.

All: Amen Fr Andrew: Saints of God, come to her aid! Come to meet her angels of the Lord! All: Receive her soul and present her to God the Most High. Fr Andrew: May Christ, who called you, take you to Himself;

may angels lead you to Abraham’s side. All: Receive her soul and present her to God the Most High. Fr Andrew: Give her eternal rest, O Lord, and may your light shine on

her forever. All: Receive her soul and present her to God the Most High.
