The 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade Life Skills classes went to LegoLand on March 13th. We not only had a great time playing,
but they were able to put huge legos together and see a 4D movie. For lunch, each student was able to order and pay for
their food at Chick-Fil-A. Lots of learning and lots of fun!

Kindergarten News
Happy Spring! We are getting close to Spring Break, but that isn't slowing down the learning in Kindergarten! We just finished up
learning about two-dimensional shapes and have moved onto three-dimensional shapes. We practiced stacking, rolling, and sliding the
different shapes and naming different objects that look like them! We have loved learning about digraphs in Fundations. We have been
looking for them in words we use daily and also we love making words with them on our whiteboards and magnet boards! We have done a
writing all about Earth Day and have been looking for the main idea in stories that we read! We love practicing stretching our words on our
whiteboards.

Second Grade News
Spring has “Sprung” in 2nd Grade
Students in second grade worked hard developing their writing skills while celebrating the beginning of spring. Students read a
story about bees and created informational paragraphs. They included some of the most interesting facts they learned about bees. In addition to paragraph writing, students created crafty
flowers and rainbow clouds full of synonyms. They also showed they understood antonyms by including an antonym to the
thunderbolt on their cloud and a bee to their flower. All their hard work makes a hallway filled with spring thoughts.

Third Grade News
Spring and warm weather are finally here!
Our third graders have been working hard getting ready for taking the PSSA tests in Reading and Math for the first time. We know that they
are going to do their very best!
On March 22nd, third graders traveled to the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center to see “Rosie Revere Engineer”, a musical based on the
book! The play taught a valuable lesson about perseverance and problem solving!
After Spring Break and PSSA testing, third graders will get to travel once again. This time, they are going to visit Collenbrook Farm in
Drexel Hill. There they will get to learn about some of Upper Darby Township’s history!

Fifth Grade News
On Friday, April 12th, the annual Hillcrest Carnival was presented for all students. This is a whole school event hosted by Fifth Grade students in
order to celebrate the beginning of the PSSA’s. Fifth graders were responsible for making/building games using RECYCLED materials
such as cardboard, old wood planks, old games and/or game pieces, etc, to make their games. Students were not permitted to use pre-made
carnival games that are purchased for the carnival activity.
The goal of this project was for students to be creative, use their imagination and to be aware of the different items around them that
can be recycled and repurposed. Parents were encouraged to work with students on this project, but ultimately it was student’s responsibility to
build the games, and adapt them for all ages and skill.
Fifth grade students greatly enjoyed making the games and watching other students have so much fun! All students had a great time and look
forward to the carnival yearly. A great time was had by all!
