Summer 2016 And We Will...! Worship at Lutherhill ends with campers being commissioned to “Go in peace and serve the Lord.” To which the campers reply, “Thanks be to God! …And we will!” This summer 2,662 kids learned about receiving the power of the Holy Spirit so they could go and serve, taking the Love of God to the ends of the Earth. That’s a lot of power! From Texas to Louisiana, Palo Duro Canyon to La Grange, the Holy Spirt was at work. We also celebrate those who took time out of their busy schedule to volunteer at camp this summer. Two very important groups of volunteers joined in our camp community. Camp Nurses stay with us each week

to tend to the medical needs of our campers. For campers that might need just a little extra attention, our Camp Grandparents were here to extend a caring hand. A special thank you to our Camp Nurses: Ian Moreau, Nancy Fox, Amy Causey, Rachel Owen and Cindy Morehead. We also thank our Camp Grandparents: Joyce Palmer, Joyce Witte, Angela Wilson, Elaine Riggs, Caroline Hughes, Joel Fox and Mark Dellagiacoma; and to the many volunteers that came and helped. Our campers, staff and volunteers are sent out into the world to receive, encourage, love, be and serve.

This summer Lutherhill partnered with the Community Cloud Forest Conservation, a ministry in Guatemala that helps preserve the Guatemalan cloud forests by teaching local farmers, especially young women, practices that protect their lands while feeding their families and surrounding communities. Campers rebuilt Lutherhill’s garden while learning how food is produced, ways to do it sustainably and, most importantly, how these practices can impact the millions of people in America who are hungry. Campers then learned how to make salsa with produce from the garden. Each year the Daily Bread Project seeks to have an impact on campers, Lutherhill and our partner organizations beyond the summer season. This year campers were challenged to remember "And We Will" means they have the power to help people in need by wisely choosing what they buy and how they use the food God gives them. Whether feeding one person or a hundred, anything and everything they can do can make a world of

difference for those who are hungry. Campers were inspired to go out, like the first disciples went out, and make powerful changes in the world. Led by Rob and Tara Cahill, the Community Cloud Forest Conservation’s ministry is to research easily reproducible agricultural practices that strengthen the cloud forest, help young women receive an education as they learn sustainable agricultural practices and raise awareness of issues facing the Guatemala Cloud Forest by hosting international service learning groups. This summer’s offering will help CCFC complete the last building on its campus. This building will have classrooms, meeting space and dorms for visitors and local girls participating in the WALC program. CCFC secured a donor to match Lutherhill’s Daily Bread offering dollar for dollar, and we raised over $7,500 toward CCFC’s building campaign. More information about CCFC and Lutherhill’s 2017 family mission trip to Guatemala can be found atwww.lutherhill.org.

And We Will...Work WitH cHriStiAnS From Around tHe World!dávid FenyveSi, elcA internAtionAl counSelor For 2016 Dávid Fenyvesi joined the Lutherhill Summer Staff from Hungary this summer through the ELCA’s International Counselor Program. Dávid immediately took to Lutherhill. His outgoing nature and desire to learn about camp led to him being an outstanding staff member. What Dávid has enjoyed the most about his time at Lutherhill was the people, they were very helpful and kind. When asked how his faith life has been impacted this summer, he replied, “My faith is stronger, and I think I found a better way to have a relationship with god.”

Dávid’s experience with staff and campers has been very meaningful. Dávid explained that all campers were different. He learned a lot on how we can work together with really different people. Dávid hopes one day he can come back. Lutherhill is a holy place and the people here are a family; but this is understandable, we are brother and sister in Jesus’ name :) Thank you Lutherhill! From the moment Dávid arrived he carried his camera everywhere. Taking photos of anything that caught his attention. We’re excited to share his experience through photos.

Why an appeal?Lutherhill is an incredible place for ministry because of the gifts people have given from 1954 to the present. As Lutherhill looks to the future we are committed to being good stewards of all the gifts God has entrusted to us. The summer appeal is an opportunity for you to learn about improvements taking place at the camp and an invitation to become a part of making it a reality.

Why these projects? Lutherhill’s Board of Directors commissioned the staff to bring together projects that would improve a guest’s experience at the Camp. These four were at the top of that list and help prepare the camp for future expansion.

Who gave? The appeal was kick started by a $50,000 gift from the sale of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Beaumont, TX. Generous gifts from Lutherhill’s Board of Directors soon followed. A number of camper parents and sponsors contributed after being invited to give throughout summer. We are pleased to announce that we met our goal of $120,000! Thanks be to God.

Thank you from Lutherhill! On April 29th, 94 golfers joined

Lutherhill Ministries at the 15th Annual Golf Tournament. It was a great day of golf, fellowship and fundraising.

Over $25,000 was raised for the year-round camping and retreat ministry.

Thanks to all our golfers, sponsors and volunteers that made the tournament a great success.
