PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

This Program focuses on basic linguisticand communicative structures of the Hindi language.Students will be introduced to various aspects ofHindi Language and learn to communicate in simpleeveryday situations and personal interaction. Theprogram will adopt an integrated approach to

language learning and will emphasize equally allfour skills of reading writing listening and speakingas well as the acquisition of Grammar structures andvocabulary.

Audio and video materials will alsobe used to supplement the textbook and to providestudents with a better insight into Hindi. Theprogram will also attempt to help students optimize

their learning by teaching them vital strategies forlanguage learning and language use. This should, inturn, allow students to develop greater learnerautonomy.

TARGET GROUP

This program is only for students without any priorknowledge of the language

PROGRAM CONTENT

The program constitutes a practicalintroduction to Modern Hindi with a study of itsscript, phonetics and Grammar. The course has twomodules as listed above. The first module deals withthe Devanagari Script its transliteration and the

Hindi Phonetic System. The second module is anIntroductory study of Hindi Grammar accompaniedby exercises in Practical language proficiency,focusing on oral presentation and listening andreading comprehension.

APPROACH

The program covers the four skills(speaking, readinglistening and writing) with an emphasis on speaking.To facilitate acquisition of the language form, thesyllabus follows a systematic grammaticalprogression. The learners work as a group withteacher and, to maximize talking time, in pairs orsmaller groups.

A variety of learning materials is used, from Textbooks to videos.

Real Life situations & needs are addressed in theentire program and outdated concepts are notdealt or explained.
