Hindu devotee sacrifice animal to their Goddess

Animal sacrifice is the ritual killing of an animal as part of a religion. It is practised by many religions as a means of appeasing a god or gods or changing the course of nature. Animal sacrifice has turned up in almost all cultures, from the Hebrews to the Greeks and Romans and from the Aztecs to the Hindus.

Remnants of ancient rituals of animal sacrifice are apparent in many cultures, for example the Spanish bullfights, or kapparos in Judaism, or ritual slaughter procedures like shechita or ḏabīḥah in Judaism and Islam, respectively.

World's biggest animal sacrifice held in Nepal, 300,000 animals slaughtered to honour goddessAccording to New of www.telegraph.co.uk by By Our Foreign Staff5:21PM GMT 24 Nov 2009

Worshippers travelled long distances, many coming from neighbouring India, to attend the controversial ceremony at the in the jungles of Bara district, about 100 miles south of Katmandu. The two-day Gadhimai festival honouring the Hindu goddess of power takes place once every five years in southern Nepal.A huge cry of "Long Live Gadhimai!" went up after the temple's head priest launched the event with the sacrifice of two rats, two pigeons, a rooster, a lamb and a pig.The crowd then rushed to a nearby field, where 250 sword-wielding butchers began the mass slaughter of around 20,000 buffalo, brought by devotees to be sacrificed near the holy temple.

Hindu organisers refused to halt the slaughter, saying it is a centuries-old tradition. Participants believe sacrificing the animals for Gadhimai will end evil and bring prosperity. The slaughtered animals are taken back by devotees to their villages and eaten during a feast,

This festival was only for the cast of Thapa. For this ceremony, they use to scarify up to 475 during this event they sip goat’s blood as a blessing.Sources : 1)http://www.google.com/imgres?num=10&hl=en&biw=1680&bih=892&tbm=isch&tbnid=wAp0QM0CJ29fJM:&imgrefurl=http://defenceforumindia.com/international-politics/7023-barbarism-name-religion.html&docid=XCnzi5DzY7hd6M&w=425&h=637&ei=6X2RToDUFMjYrQerspyZAQ&zoom=1

Munneswaram Kovil's Animal Sacrifice

Munneswaram Hindu Kovil is one of oldest devoting place for many ethnic groups in Srilanka 80 kilometres (50 miles) from Colombo.

Accorging to news on http://www.nation.lk/2010/08/22/news27.htm : The animal sacrifice of the Chilaw Munneswaram Pathirakaliyamman Kovil will take place on Tuesday (25) despite protests from religious organisations. The temple’s chief priest, Kalimuthu Sivapatha Suntharam Kurukkal, told The Nation that the sacrifice had been taking place for generations and would continue to be held this year. He claimed that people brought animals to the temple to be ‘sacrificed’ to the ‘Pathirakaliyamman’ Goddess. He rejected allegations that the temple was misleading the people by making them to do this. The priest’s remarks came as the All Ceylon Hindu Congress (ACHC) condemned the planned animal sacrifice. Suntharam Kurukkal, however, said there was no reason for organisation to oppose this act, as it had been in practice for a long time. “This practice has been going on for the past 13 generations. The animals will be offered to the Goddess and the meat will be given to the people. I see no reason for some to oppose the ritual,” he said.ACHC general secretary Kandiah Neelakandan alleged in a press statement on August 19 that such acts were committed by those who did not know about the religion.“Our religion treats even animals as children of His Almighty and not only killing of animals, but even any cruelty to them cannot be tolerated in the precincts of a Hindu temple,” he said. Some Buddhist organisations have also protested against the sacrificial ritual.

Mansha Puja (Goat sacrifice) in Chittagong:

Hindu devotees celebrated Mansha Puja across the country today. On this day, Hindu devotees sacrifice goats, ducks and offer fruit according to their financial standing at different Kali Temples across the country. Chittagong, Bangladesh. 17/08/2010

Goat sacrifice to Kali at a tantric pooja room at midnight is a good festival to please Kali matha and get the blessings.

There are tamasic Kali worshippers who offer blood of goat at night and perform poojas. You can sacrifice animals but should only sacrifice male goats and observer the principles. For eg, the animal must be kept in a safe place without any wounds for some three days. Also mid night 12 is the best time to sacrifice. The rituals should start at about 9 pm and generally the poojari and you must take a good bath in the evening and wear only under garment. The goat must be cleaned well using pure water and it must be decorated with flowers. At 9 pm the goat must be brought before the pooja room and placed exactly opposite to the Kali devi picture. The sword going to be used must be washed and decorated with chandan and kumkum and also with flowers. Then the poojari must repeatedly recite the Kali mantra that he received from his guru. Then at around midnight 12, the incense must be shown to the goat and it must be ready for sacrifice. For cutting the goat, it must be held tight at the back and the poojari must cut the head in a single cut and the head should roll down at the ground. Then you and poojari must move behind and see the goat bleeding to death without disturbing it. After it gets completely dead, you must take the head and lit the aarthi deepam on that. After this ceremony, the goat's head must be gifted to the poojari along with dakshana for cutting. The goat's body can be butchered and distrubuted to poor the next day.It is a good festival and need not feel guilty as anyhow all goats go to mutton shops. Better it gets sacrificed to Kali and Kali gets pleased and grant more manhood to the people.Source : http://www.demotix.com/news/413119/mansha-puja-goat-sacrifice-chittagong

INDIA - Kurava's sacrificingone of those communities who view much of life as sacred: conception, birth, death, hunting, dreams, harvests, kinship etc. Ritual is an intersection of the profane and the sacred. The ritual of animal sacrifice serves to create a sense of community among its member participants, reinforcing their ‘communitarian values’ which they believe hold the community together. Kuravas's one of the most ancient nomads in India, they are migrated to the Tamil country from the western part of India in the 7th Century. Their caste system and their ceremonies differ very much from the common practices in Tamil. At the time of the 'ritual' the priest and the head of the family drink buffalo blood. The Kurava people get blessing from the blooded priest
