Meaning of Name

Hinduism, from the Persian word hindu means "of the Indus Valley" or simply "Indian." Hindus call their religion sanatama dharma, which means "eternal religion" or "eternal truth."

A little bit about Hinduism

It was founded in 1500 BC or even earlier. It wasn't founded by one specific person. It was first a culture, but it eventually became a great religion with over 900 million adherents. (Third largest religion in the world!) It's a combination of religious, philosophical, and cultural ideas and practices that originated in India. It's practiced mainly in India, but it's also practiced by some in the United Kingdom and the United States.

Who founded Hinduism?

Hinduism was founded by a group of people as a way of living and not as a religion. But Vedas are the main base of Hinduism.Vedas are believed to be communication from God to human beings some thousands years ago and the teachings were given through teacher-disciple tradition , as Vedas were created by God, we can say that God, is the founder of Hinduism, which he updates from time to time by reincarnating.

Makar Sankranti

Makar Sankranti is one of the most important festivals of the Hindu Calender and celebrates the sun's journey into the northern hemisphere, a period which is considered to be highly auspicious.

The Purpose of Life

Karma:Everything you say or do will come back at you (good or bad).

People gather at either a temple or a home shrine. It's lead by a guru or sage. It's a polytheistic religion (many gods.) There's also a Trinity, just like christianity. Brahma is the creator of all reality. Vishnu or Krishna is the preserver of all creations. Shiva is the destroyer.

The dead are washed in the Ganges Rover and then cremated. Hindus consider the heat of fire to be the final purifier after water. When a human is dead, they believe its soul stays by its belongings for a while. Hindus perform rituals for up to 13 days to get the soul to peace. They believe that when someone dies, they're soul lingers around his relatives. They also believe that they have to do a ritual to break the bond with the body and start a new life elsewhere. By burning the body, the soul doesn't feel the physical association with the body anymore.
