Very Elegant

It is very good. I have been there twice now and apart from hustle and bustle noise

from the street i have nothing to complain. It has always been my 1st choice while

in Kolkata. It is close to all important locations in the city so i never had to take a

taxi. The location allows you to explore the surroundings by foot. Incredible India.

Good Experience with Family

HHI Kolkata is Good, First Things First. I have sent enquiry by email and replied

with Room tariiff and pickup by Hotel. Prior to departure confirmed the arrival

Time at Kolkata. Pickup Driver called in advance 1 hr on cab for pickup. I check in

to HHI on 29 Oct and till 1 Nov. Best Thing they didn’t took any single advance

from me, Full amount was collected from me on checkout. I was surprised none of

the hotels gave me this.  Breakfast at MYTH was fabulous and Splendid, Staff was

friendly and guided us for Kolkata. Room Service was good, they keep the room

Loved the HHI

This hotel provides exceptional service, very good food, and is in a great location

in the city. Staff, especially housekeeping and room service, went out of their way

to make us feel comfortable. We slept soundly thanks to the hotel being very quiet.

An ample breakfast with Indian, Chinese, and American fare was served, and the

price included in our room. As an American, I have found it sometimes difficult to

locate a hotel an India that meets our pretty basic standards. But this hotel went

way above our expectations.

This hotel made my trip to Kolkata a beautiful one

When I travelled to Kolkata with my family to attend a wedding reception of one

of my nephew, we came across this hotel and decided to give it a try. Even though

it is in the middle of traffic laiden roads, it provides you a quite environment.

Thanks to the much skilled & co-operative staff to handle such a vast no. of

people. Len rooms, premises, etc. I and my family enjoyed the stay very much.

Relax

We had to make a short family trip to kolkata with my wife and my three year old

kid. We were looking for a place where we could relax. One of my friends

suggested me this place. I tell you it's worth staying . The rooms out there are cozy

and very comfortable. The bathroom is a bit small but it has all the facitities and it's

well maintained. The hotel is magnificent and we have never experienced such

incredible service before. It was so lovely that it was hard to drag ourselves away

from the hotel. The food here is mouthwatering, specially The Kalash. The buffet

here has all the items to make your breakfast worthwhile. And if you are interested

in late night parties make sure to visit The Underground (Discotheque), The best

place in kolkata. The location of the hotel is centrally located, it has the excess to

all locations in Kolkata.

Loved the Changes

Visited Hotel Hindustan International, Kolkata after 3 years. My God what a

phenomenal transformation it has gone through. We booked a Banquet Party at

The newly launched TOPAZ Banquet Hall for 400 persons. The Hall is possibly

one of the best in Eastern India. They have other smaller Banquet Rooms too &

believe me they are all superb designer banquets.

Page 27: Hindustan International Hotel

The Owners need to be commended for such a great transformation in the last 3

years.  We booked 3 Rooms at Their newly built Colony Floor & we were very

impressed with the Decor, services & the Hospitality provided by the Team of

professional Staffs, including excellent Food by their Chefs. Well done HHI, Do

keep it up.... Pravesh, Mala, Prashant & Nikhil Arora

Excellent Location, Food & Comfort

We checked into the hotel primarily because of its location in central Kolkata. The

city (like most Indian Cities) has a lot of traffic and a lot of time is wasted in

commuting. But, staying at the hotel enabled us to do more in a single day and

spend more time doing stuff rather than sitting in the car.  The food at Mythh &

Kalash is absolutely fantastic. (Do try the Chocolate Mud Pie & Caesar Salad at

Mythh). We stayed at the 8th floor that gave us a nice view of city, you can see

how much Kolkata has been through with a lot of very old buildings with several

new skyscrapers.  The staff was very helpful and we were delighted by their

prompt & efficient service :)

Room Tip: We had the colony room at the top floor. I recommend the city view.

Stayed year for 2nd time. This time, stayed with a group of 50+ people as we were

part of a wedding party. I thought the staff was very cooperative and handled our

often unreasonable requests. All the wedding functions were within the grand halls

etc of the hotel. Overall, great area for common functions, good comfortable

rooms, friendly staff. We didn’t really try the restaurants in the hotel. The food

served in the functions was amazing, though. Overall, thumbs up.

Solo Travel Reviews

Female traveling solo for work. Great hotel

I was there this summer on a business trip. This hotel exceeded my expectations in

both of my stays. The restaurant was outstanding and so was the service. The

concierge helped me find a driver on a very short notice and helped me come up

with an itinerary to see as much of the city in a few hours. They were also very

concerned with my safety and made my work driver come in to make sure I knew

him.My first room was not updated but it was still very good. My second room was

updated and it was great. No noise, good working AC and showers, comfy bed for

battling jet lag, good restaurant for meetings and good location. I would go back

any day.

ONE OF THE BEST IN CITY

Hotel is centrally located. The hotel is clean and very good rooms. The size of the

room is good enough. Food quality and restaurant service is good but little

expensive. Staff does expect tips which are common in Kolkata. However the

attitude of the staff is good and helping. Good pub in the hotel.

Excellent but could be better

This place is one of the five star hotels in Kolkata which is affordable. The services

are good and breakfast was complimentary. A good collection of toiletries was

provided though the bath tub was stained and looked quite uninviting. The

breakfast spread was amazing and the restaurants were worth the price and truly

value for money. If at all I had any complaints about the hotel were the noisy

guests. Unfortunately, I guess I was in the hotel on the wrong day and the lobby

Page 32: Hindustan International Hotel

seemed pretty noisy and crowded. The hotel also has a discotheque and a pub,

which were quite dull on a weekday though there was a live band playing in one of

the pubs. Kudos to the bell services, the best of the lot and the hotel truly lived up

to all the promises made at the time of booking. One way transfer, complimentary

breakfast, free internet and free entry to the pub/discotheque made it a truly

eventful stay. Overall a good experience and a nice place to stay while in Kolkata.

Worth every penny

I recently stayed for 14 days at the HHI (Kolkata). It was a business trip though. I,

being from the entertainment industry, often enjoy my stay at the best hotels across

the country. This one being one of the memorable ones.

Firstly, they provide an extremely high speed wi-fi connection absolutely free, for

which otherwise I'd usually end up paying around 15usd a day at any other similar

category hotel. That itself saved me more than 200usd on my entire stay. The food

is appealing as well as yummy (the gremolata grilled bekti fish being my fav)!

Adjoining the poolside is a small but well equipped gym, which really helped me

keep-up with my training while away for 2 weeks from my regular work-out spot.

They have a wide variety of entertainment options.. an indian restaurant, a

continental (24hrs) restaurant, a bar with live music and a night-club that runs till

5am every day!! And if all of this wasn't enough, I learnt that one of the big mall

(which also hosts a multiplex) was just behind the hotel. It was just a 5mins walk

from the hotel to the mall to enjoy Avatar in 3D. The staff is extremely prompt and

welcoming. The house-keeping especially.. for the first time I did not get disturbed

by the house-keeping at 7am and 8am.. unlike other hotels, which allowed me to

complete my sleep!! The room-service also kept a tab on my eating habits and

would not need to be briefed each time on how i like my pasta. And yeah, the

cappuccino is also a must try there! The laundry service is also just as asked and

also extra fast Over all, I'd highly recommend HHI (Kolkata).

Liked — everything!

Page 35: Hindustan International Hotel

This keeps getting better

Had a room here on the newly renovated floor 5 Serious upgrading has gone on

with a better bed, much better bathroom and wooden floor Staff very helpful Food

excellent Good selection of beers and whiskies but alcohol is very expensive

Feels like home

Sometimes all you need are familiar faces when you travel people who know you,

people who know what you like and that is what i get here, at the Hindustan. I

started using this property about a couple of years back and now my travels take

me there at least once in a month. I would not stay anywhere else as i love the

Page 37: Hindustan International Hotel

rooms and the food. the hotel has a swimming pool and gym that I use every time,

the hotel is close to all the places i need to get around, sometimes even walking

distance away so save a bit on car hire, as they say every little helps.

Room Tip: Avoid the interconnecting rooms they tend to carry noise from the

Warm Hospitality

We like staying at the Hotel Hindustan international for its central location and

personal attention. Every time we check in we are greeted with smiling faces and

the staff are always eager to help. Particularly like to mention the Mythh Coffee

shop manager Hair who always shines through. I stay on the 7th floor where the

rooms are not the newest in the city but are well maintained. The breakfast spread

is elaborate with a lot of options and the hotel has a good nightclub called the

Underground. I use the gym and pool as well as threes nothing like beating a long

day’s work with a good swim. I highly recommend this hotel as it’s the perfect

combination of affordable prices with luxury.

Good stay

I was at the HHI for a period of 2 weeks. During my stay I was absolutely floored

by the service that I received. The care and attention I received was among the best

in the world. Maybe there wasn't as much finesse as say a Ritz but at the end of the

day I rather have warmth than a stiff upper lip polite service. My room was nice

too, bright colours and nicely lit, I could see that it was not very new but it was

well maintained none the less. The breakfast at the coffee shop was good, with a

wide spread. Really like the South Indian dishes. To sum it up the hotel has good

location, good rooms, good service and comes at a good price.

Excellent service and location”

Once I stepped into the hotel, I was served with a glass of juice. I was rather tired

and thirsty and this young girl's smiling face with a glass of juice made me feel

much better. I was in Kolkata to close an important deal for my company and

wanted to get my room .there was this old gentleman....Mr Mukherjee who spoke

Page 39: Hindustan International Hotel

very well and asked me if he could help me with the luggage. I gladly gave him my

laptop bag( the shoulder was aching a bit after my delayed flight) and other

luggage’s.

The lobby manager gave me a room on the fifth floor overlooking this panoramic

view of Kolkata. Room smelled fresh and I remembered Mr Mukhrjee telling me

they were the best rooms in the hotel’s sat near the window and wondered what

brings me back to HHI every time I visit Kolkata. Being a person whose roots were

in Kolkata I always wanted to be in the heart of the city. From here I can walk

down to Flury,s and have my evening tea and finish the Hungry Tides which I am

carrying in my purse. Ordered for some fish.....wanted some marcher jhal as they

say in Bengali and rice. I looked at the flamingo shaped table and saw some

handmade chocolates. In seconds they were over, as they were really amazing.

Well the wine , I thought will save for the evening. Asked for the wi-fi and sat

down with my work till the macher jhal came. The chef called me to ask how hot I

wanted my jhal as this item was not in the room service menu card. He asked few

questions and I think he understood. I left the expertise on to him and he hung up.

Amazingly the wi- fi was fast and I completed answering those usual mails and

sent stinker mails to my team members. Now that they know I am in Kolkata they

must be partying. The door bell rang and I could smell the macher jhal and rice. I

thanked bablu( had asked his name) and he had greeted me. I asked Bablu what

makes him smile everyday and greet with such great enthusiasm. He said Madam

its Kolkata.....here everyone smiles and greets you. yes indeed the city of joy.....

Well after having my fish and rice, got ready for the crucial meeting. Asked the

travel desk for a car and soon managed to reach Dalhousie. Indeed the heritage

building of Writers was in front of me. Stepped out of the car and and asked the

few policemen the way. They directed me towards Mr Partha Chaterjee' rooms.

Meeting over I was too happy to return to my hotel and party. First called all my

Page 40: Hindustan International Hotel

friends and asked them to be at Underground by 8. Evening time....dressed to

occasion I stepped into UG as they call it. My friends had already started joining

me. Vodka shots....and then again Vodka shots....the smile and laughter did not

stop. 5 mad women enjoyed the evening and at around 12, we decided to bid

goodbye as I had work the next morning. Back to my rooms I drawed the curtains

and I smiled... That's the Howrah Bridge...what an amazing view.

Next day after work, was the time to leave Kolkata......and check out of

HHI .wanted to meet Mr. Rodney Kaypee the gm of the hotel. I knew he is very

particular about the guests and he had made all arrangements so special. Thanked

him and checked out...Waiting for my next visit to Kolkata.....the city of joy

indeed!!!!! Thank you HHI

It is worth it

The rooms here are value for money, period. In terms of facilities this hotel offers

way more. The only down side is that the food at the restaurants are a little on the

higher side, but said that they also give good quality. The staff is friendly and the

Page 41: Hindustan International Hotel

ambience good. The building itself is a 60's style concrete block but the inside of

the hotel is modern and in tune with the times. The hotel is pretty central but the

road outside is a little busy, so have some time at hand. In totality this is a good

place to put up, and we would certainly recommend it to anyone who is traveling

to Kolkata.

Charming Hotel

I have always been staying at the HHI Kolkata for many years, every summer I

return back from Switzerland for a visit to my native kolkata and Every time i stay

at the HHI. One thing which really stands out is the friendly employees they have

at the hotel and since my stays are pretty long they make it feel like home. The

breakfast in the morning is very good but i have spoken to the chef of adding a bit

of variety. The rooms have been updated which are a good thing. Given its location

and facilities, i would keep coming back for its old school charm.

Room Tip: I prefer the rooms on the rear, they are quieter.

Friend’s Reviews

My favorite city hotel

We always use The HHI regularly for our guests to stay. The rooms are good

matched by equally good services. The hotels location is its biggest plus for us as

its close to our residence and office. The staff always gives us a homely feeling

and since being a regular here we have grown to like them a lot. We are

particularly fond of its night club the Underground. Saturdays are really happening

with really good house and Bollywood music. Nothing like a good meal after

partying at the Mythh coffee shop round about midnight, or post. I feel the hotel is

Page 44: Hindustan International Hotel

not too heavy on the wallet for what it has to offer and for us is one of our favorites

in the city. Too many good times attached to this property. Would certainly

recommend anyone from staying here.

Room Tip: rooms on weekends are a little cheaper ask for a discount when

DILIP KUMAR JAISWAL VS DEBAPRIYA BANERJEE ON 14 MARCH, 1991 Complainant’s company, on two different dates, supplied a total of

45 numbers of moulding boxes to accused No. 1, under proper receipts on

September 12 and 13, 1989. Thereafter, the complainant's company submitted two

bills, one for Rs. 46,582.50 and another for Rs. 1,06,665.60 when, on October 12,

1989, accused No. 2, on behalf of his company, accused No. 1, issued a cheque in

favour of the complainant's company towards the payment for the cost of the said

articles. On the same day, accused No. 2 as the managing director

of Hotel Hindustan International, by a letter dated October 12, 1989, guaranteed

the payment of the dues of the complainant's company amounting to Rs. 1,

52,648.10 and issued a post-dated cheque for Rs. 1, 52,648.10, on consideration

that the said cheque be presented for encashment in the event the earlier cheque

'dated October 12, 1989, was dishonoured for any reason. The complainant

presented the cheque dated October 12, 1989, to the banker for encashment. On

October 17, 1989, the bank returned the said cheque unpaid with an endorsement

"exceeds arrangement." Thereafter the complainant presented the cheque dated

October.

INCOME-TAX HOTEL HINDUSTHAN INTERNATIONAL

Commissioner of Income-Tax vs S.P. Jaiswal Estates (P.) Ltd. on 27 January, 1992

Shortly stated, the facts are that the assessee-company runs a five star hotel in

Calcutta under the name and style of Hotel Hindusthan International. Before the

Income-tax Officer, the assessee-company claimed investment allowance under

Page 48: Hindustan International Hotel

Section 32A of the Income-tax Act, 1961, amounting to Rs. 5, 78,500 on plant and

machinery installed during the accounting year.

S.P. Jaiswal Estates (P.) Ltd. vs. Commissioner of Income-Tax on 19 May, 1994 The year of assessment involved is 1980-81. The assessee is a resident company.

It runs a five-star hotel in Calcutta styled as Hotel Hindusthan International. It

maintained accounts in mercantile system. Its previous year relevant to the

assessment year 1980-81 ended on Diwali of 1979 corresponding to October 19,

1979. The relevant facts out of which the questions arise are these.

S.P. Jaiswal Estates Pvt. Ltd. vs Commissioner Of Income-Tax (No. ... on 10 February, 1994

This reference relates to the income-tax assessments of the assessee-company for

the previous year ending on November 14, 1982, corresponding to the assessment

year 1983-84. The assessee-company runs a five-star  hotel in Calcutta styled

"Hotel Hindusthan International", At the outset, we find that questions Nos. 2, 3

and 4 referred at the instance of the assessee, and question No. 5 referred at the

instance of the Revenue, are already covered by our earlier judgments in the case

of the assessee-company itself. Questions Nos. 2 and 3 relate to the issue whether

the assessee is an industrial company entitled to claim the concessional rate of

Income-tax. This issue came up for consideration before this court in the case of

the assessee-company for the assessment year 1982-83 in Income-tax Reference

The second question raised in this reference at the instance of the Revenue is

concerned with the short issue whether the hotel building is plant or not for the

purpose of allowing depreciation. In this respect, Mr. Poddar, learned counsel for

the assessee, referred to the decision of the Supreme Court in CIT v. Taj

Page 49: Hindustan International Hotel

Mahal Hotel. The Supreme Court in that case was considering the meaning of the

expression "plant" in the context of a hotel business. The question before the court

was whether the sanitary and pipeline fittings in a hotel fell within the definition of

"plant" in the context of Section 10(5) of the Indian Income-tax Act, 1922,

corresponding to Section 32(1) of the Income

Jaiswal Estates Pvt. Ltd. vs Commissioner Of Income-Tax (No. ... on 22 September, 1993

This reference relates to the income-tax assessment of the assessee-company for

the previous year ending on October 26, 1981, corresponding to the assessment

year 1982-83. The assessee-company runs a five-star hotel in Calcutta styled

"Hotel Hindusthan International". The only issue involved in this reference

relates to the rate of income-tax chargeable on the total income of the assessee-

company for the year under reference. The Income-tax Officer charged tax at 65

per cent. by treating the assessee as a non-industrial company. This order was

confirmed in appeal by the Commissioner of Income-tax (Appeals) as well as by

the Tribunal. The case of the assessee is that it is an industrial company and it

should be charged to tax at 60 per cent. which is applicable to an industrial

company under the Finance.

S.P. Jaiswal Estate Pvt. Ltd. vs. Department Of Income Tax on 23 March, 2012

After considering the rival submissions and perusing the material available on

record including the precedence, we are of the view that on identical claim the

department disallowed the same either on adhoc or estimated. Thus, we are of the

Page 50: Hindustan International Hotel

view that the same consistency has to be followed. As it is a sales promotion

expenses in respect of hotel business of the assessee, which the assessee is running

under the name and style 'Hotel Hindusthan International. We confirm the

impugned order of the learned Commissioner of Income-tax (Appeals) on this

issue. This ground of assessee in its cross objection is dismissed.

2015/2012 on 24 July, 2012

Ghoshal Mr. Sanjoy Bardhan Mr. Arindam Sen .....For the Petitioner/N.I.A. Mr.

Debasish Roy Mr. Sanjoy Banerjee ...For the State. The present application has

been filed by National Investigation Agency. It is stated in the petition that accused

Amir Reza Khan, a Chief of Islamic Terrorist organization also called "Indian

Mujaheedin" and his followers are responsible for several serial blasts in different

cities in India since 2005. It is pleaded in paragraph 4 of the petition that accused

Amir Reza Khan and his followers had made several threatening calls to Dilip

Kumar Jaiswal, Managing Director of Hotel Hindusthan International, Kolkata

since 19th February, 2010 and demanded extortion for a sum of Rs.20 crores. It is

further stated that a red corner notice has already been issued against said Amir
