he story of Hislop College began more than a hundred and fifty years ago, when a young Scottish Tmissionary, heeding to the call of the Master, Jesus Christ, set out for India with fire in his belly and

dreams in his eyes. Stephen Hislop's humanitarian zeal motivated him to start in 1846 a boy's school at

Shukrawara, old Nagpur. From such a modest beginning, the dream that this visionary saw, slowly but surely

actualized in the shape of Hislop College as it stands today- one of the finest institutions of higher learning in

Central India with over 5000 young boys and girls. The College has steadfastly served society and the

country by producing great personalities: from astute leaders and acclaimed scientists to prolific litterateurs

and brilliant sportsmen.

The College offers under-graduate and post-graduate courses in all three faculties, i.e., Arts, Science and

Commerce. These include Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Electronics, Mathematics,

Statistics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology and Fresh Water Fish Culture (FWFC) in the Science stream,

Business Administration, Computer Management in the Commerce stream and Communicative English,

Marathi, Hindi, Sanskrit, English Literature, Psychology, History, Political Science, Sociology, Philosophy in the

Arts stream. A multi-discipline faculty, demographically varied student body, relevant specializations, in-depth

tutoring, student feedback and parent-teacher meets, all these and more make the experience of learning in

Hislop an unforgettable one. The highly qualified and experienced faculty, backed by a liberal and proactive

Management, inspires students to strive continuously to set higher benchmarks in academic and athletic

excellence.

The College campus is spread across more than 7.5 acres of land. The main building encloses a quadrangle

that has a proscenium, a basketball court and a lush green lawn fringed by a variety of trees and flower plants.

Besides these, the 40,000 sq. m. playground, the modern and renovated auditorium, and the multi-cuisine

cafeteria provide young enthusiastic minds with spaces that stimulate a synergy of ideas and activities. A state

of the art gymnasium has come up. The College also offers residential accommodation for girls in its on-

campus hostel.

Hislop College has been re-accredited by NAAC with A grade with a CGPA Rating of 3.31. This is one of the

many glorious achievements that the college is proud of. The College reaffirms its commitment to mould

minds, build character and shape careers of the younger generation. It also looks forward to face the new

challenges in the years ahead.

times. Taking the concept of industry-academia interface forward, the Business Process and Outsourcing

Services Unit of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has prepared a Finance and Accounting in Business Process

Services' course for students of B.Com., B.C.C.A.,B.B.A., and M.Com. TCS has designed the course in such a

manner that it will sharpen the understanding of finance and accounts that students are exposed to in practical

TRAINING & PLACEMENT CELL

DISCIPLINE COMMITTEE

GAMES & SPORTS COMMITTEE

STUDENT WELFARE AND S.Q.A. C. COMMITTEE

SKILL DEVELOPMENT CENTRE

HISLOP CAMP (Competitive Aptitude Management Programme)

The College has a fully functional Students Training and Placement Cell. The students are ably

groomed, trained and geared for the corporate world. Training and Placement Cell has an MOU

(Memorandum of Understanding) with T C S and has been successfully running an add. on course on

"Campus to Corporate" and "Finance Accounting for BPS." The companies that have recruited our

students include TCS, IBM, Mahindra Finance, Wipro Technologies, Infosys, NIIT, Aptech, Kingfisher

Airlines, Biocon, Dr. Reddy's, Sun Pharma, and several others.

The Discipline Committee keeps a vigilant watch and maintains order and discipline on campus. The

Committee ensures discipline in the campus, college premises and classroom. Its goal is to create a

safe & academically conducive environment for the students. It also takes measures against

inappropriate behaviour including progressive discipline comprising suspension and expulsion

where necessary.

The Games & Sports Committee aims to ensure organized physical education, sports and games

activities. The aim is to create an environment that contributes to the optimal development of the

individual's potential in all the phases of life. The main function is to organize and conduct various

activities related to Health, Fitness, Sports and Games. The committee also promotes and facilitates

participation of students at various sporting events at District, State, National and International

levels.

The College has an active and fully operational SQAC comprising of students of all the streams. The

cell ensures a participatory role for students in the organizational life of the institution. Regular

interaction between students and teachers through this forum enables students to give feedback and

suggestions. These are then implemented to improve the overall quality and efficiency of the college.

The main aim is to make students ready for the industry. There is a big gap between academic

knowledge and the skills required by the industry. The centre aims to bridge this gap by giving training

to the students in the various skills required by the industry/corporate world. Students here are

aptitude and analytical skills and prepare the students to face competitive exams with ease. Hislop

CAMP organizes awareness about these exams. We also conduct coaching for aptitude and

these exams and update them with the announcements of competitive exams and the syllabus.

The Human Rights & Equal Opportunity Cell is actively involved in ensuring and creating socially

congenial atmosphere for academic interaction and for the growth of harmonious personal

relationships among the students coming from various social backgrounds. The Cell aims to sensitize

students about the human rights of every individual so that they lead a decent and dignified life

without infringing on the rights of others. It also aims to sensitize the academic community about the

problems associated with social exclusion. The Cell facilitates help to the socially disadvantaged

group of students and aims to disseminate information related to the schemes and programs for

socially weaker sections. Thus the objective of the Cell is to bring the Students of

SC/ST/OBC/Religious minorities and Women into the main stream of development process by

creating awareness amongst them.

The Hislop College Alumni Association- HISCAAN is a wide umbrella under which students and

teachers, present as well as former, share their experience, achievements, knowledge and expertise

from different fields with each other. Imagine a world where all Hislopians come together to interact,

connect professionally and grow intellectually! Over a period of time, this continuous process, we

believe, would not only pave the way for individuals to benefit but even the institution to flourish. The

outstanding performance of HISCAAN is its promotion of 'HOPE', a Student Aid Fund Project which

has helped around 400 students receive financial assistance in the last 3 years.

Hislop College has introduced a unique programme of 'Student Mentoring' by their peers. Ideal

senior students are appointed as 'Student Mentors' to guide and assist the first year students

admitted in degree courses in knowing about various aspects of life on college campus including

academics, administration & infrastructure so that the freshers become a part of this institution. This

cell aims to build a positive environment in the student community by building bridges between

juniors and seniors. This mentoring activity has helped promote self esteem and self efficacy among

the students.

The College follows a zero-tolerance policy towards ragging and sexual harassment. Students are

sensitized on gender rights and gender equality through talks, seminars and obedience to the college

code of conduct. Safety of girl students is of prime concern to us. The Hislop Internal Complaints

Committee (HICC) has been constituted according to norms as specified in the New Act 2013 on

Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace: Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal. Earlier, the Anti

Sexual Harasment Cell was constituted with an objective of looking after the welfare of the women

employees and students, to facilitate redressal of their grievances, to help maintain a harmonious

atmosphere at the workplace and to enable women to pursue their work with dignity and self
