Representation of Women Women had the same rights as men in the 20th century. They bore the children, were householders, mothers, wives etc… Women were drafted into the labour market to undertake work that had been

usually done by men during the war. They always lost their jobs in industry and had to return to domestic and service

roles.

Women’s were the focus of advertisements and made the biggest selling point of a product being sold.

Women’s only had their rights to have a voice in the political elections and the right to vote in the early 1900’s.

In non-fictional media women’s roles tend to be smaller and fewer than their male counterparts.

How are Women represented in Magazines? In most of the Magazines women's are represented as 'sex objects' because most

of the pictures are inappropriate. This is used to catch the reader’s attention to the advertisements.

The main aim in a Women magazine is to present information about dieting, fashion, make up and information on how to attract a man.

In Men's magazines most Women are represented as sex objects. They are normally dressed in minimal clothing to attract the male audience. On the other hand it makes it a bad view of women as they are then called as sex objects.
