RCPE Research Grants

Educating doctors, improving care.

John, Margaret, Alfred & Stewart Sim Fellowship for Research into Depressive Illness

Applications are sought for the John, Margaret, Alfred and Stewart Sim Fellowship from any graduates in Medicine or Science to research the causes or treatment of depression. Applicants may request funding for up to three years, with a total cost of up to £300,000, including on-costs and essential research expenses. FEC will not be funded.

The Royal College of Physicians and the University of Edinburgh are keen that this fund fosters mental health research and the academic careers of young doctors. There is no geographical restriction on the use of funding.

Applicants must include with their application:• a completed application form • a summary of the research proposal – limited to 1,000 words and summarising aims, background and plan of proposed research• their CV• a letter of support from their Head of Department/Institution• a professional reference

Marion B M Lindsay Bequest and the Miss Janet Reid Trust – Research Grants into Mental Disorders

The Marion BM Lindsay Bequest and the Miss Janet Reid Trust Research Grant are for research into any aspects of mental disorder. Typically, awards of up to £2,000 will be made for one or more pump priming projects or pilot work towards further grant or fellowship applications or other research activities (but not simply travel expenses). We will consider spending up to £5,000 on any one such project but this would have to have demonstrable added value.

Applicants must include with their application:• a one page summary of their research proposal • their CV• a professional reference
