HIV Peer Education Services Purpose:
• Link clients to HIV care and support services.
• Provide referrals as needed.
• Provide health education and literacy training to enable clients to navigate the HIV system of care.
Who is eligible for Peer Education Services?
• Individuals who are newly diagnosed with HIV.
• Persons Living with HIV/AIDS who have been out of HIV care for six months orlonger.
• The partner or family member of a current HIV-positive client.
Who provides Peer Education Services?Peer Education Services are provided by Peer Counselors (persons living with HIV/AIDS). The Peer Counselors receive special training and work closely with the HIV case managers to provide a range of services to clients.
Peer Counselors are available to answer questions, provide support, share real-life examples, and share resources. Peer Counselors share knowledge about HIV disease and assist with treatment adherence counseling.
