3 LETTER OF APPRECIATION In the course of each year, it is not unusual to receive complimentary letters from tour guides that encounter our students. As a reflection of our school and parish, I thought it important to share one with the larger Holy Family Community. Following is a letter we received while our 8th grade class was in Washington DC.:

Dear Fr. Weighner and Mr. Marlow, This morning I once again had the privilege to

meet with your 8th grade students and tell them a little bit about Arlington Ladies and the work they do at Ar-lington National Cemetery. This is the third time I have been lucky enough to meet with students from your school. Each year I am more impressed than the last. The maturity displayed by these students is some-thing you should be proud of. They were attentive, po-lite and actually interested during the presentation – something you don’t often find in young people on a field trip.

In preparation, and knowing we would only have a very few minutes together, I asked the Director of the Women in Military Service for America Memorial if we would be able to use space in the museum. There were several events going on in the museum, yet we were allowed to use the Hall of Heroes. I never hesitat-ed to ask for the space, as I know any group you send is respectful of people and property.

In this day and age when our society is anything you want it to be, it is refreshing to know that students who are products of Catholic education are different. Their dress, behavior, and kindness toward their teach-er, chaperones, me and each other were all life skills learned in an environment, both home and school, where God is central.

I know graduation is but a week away. You should with confidence, send these young people off to high school knowing they have learned well the values you have taught.

It was my pleasure to spend some time with such fine young adults. You should be proud of these students, they are wonderful examples what young peo-ple should be.

Sincerely, Joayn Bahr Army Arlington Lady

SCOREBOARD: We would like to express our gratitude to the John Wachter family for the generous donation of a scoreboard and scorer’s table for our new gymnasium facility in memory of Margaret Wachter.

Our mission collection will take place next weekend, June 11 & 12. Thank you for your support of this important missionary outreach of our diocese.

Astonishing Facts about the Sacred Heart You Never Knew

June is the month of the year that the Catholic Church dedicates to Sacred Heart of Jesus. But just what does a devotion to the Sacred Heart mean? Here are some facts to get your month started right.

1. A devotion to the Sacred Heart includes twelve promises. Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus comes with twelve promises. These include everything from a quick ascent to perfection all the way to a blessing upon every place where an image of Christ’s Sacred Heart is exposed.

2. The Sacred Heart is “part of the mainline of our faith.” Father William G. Most writes for EWTN and said, “Without that Divine Love we would not exist at all, nor would we have been redeemed. For to love is to will good to another for the other’s sake.” God will and loves us into existence with his Sacred Heart, so devotion to the heart of Christ is intertwined within our faith as Catholics.

3. Devotion to the Sacred Heart is a devotion like no other. Devotion to the Sacred Heart is different than a devotion to your patron saint, guardian angel or favorite martyr. In fact, as Father Most points out, to honor the love of God is the very heart of our faith.

4. The entire world is dedicated to the Sacred Heart. In 1899, Pope Leo XIII consecrated the entire world to the devotion of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He said, “For we, in dedicating ourselves, not only recognize and accept His rule explicitly and freely, but we actually testify that if that which we give were ours, we would most willingly give it, and we ask Him to graciously accept from us that very thing, even though it is already His.”

5. Saint Pope John Paul II calls the devotion necessary. Saint Pope John Paul II spoke extensively during his papacy about the importance of the new evangelization in the life of the Catholic Church. He wrote: “The Heart of Christ must be recognized as the heart of the Church: It is He who calls us to conversion, to reconciliation. It is He who leads pure hearts and those hungering for justice along the way of the Beatitudes. It is He who achieves the warm communion of the members of the one Body. It is He who enables us to adhere to the Good News and to accept the promise of eternal life. It is He who sends us out on mission. The heart-to-heart with Jesus broadens the human heart on a global scale.”
