If you would like to work in pathology as a specimen collector (phlebotomist) this course will teach you how to take blood samples, various swabs and electrocardiograms for patients requiring pathology tests. You will learn infection control, first aid, WHS principles, how to prepare samples for testing, as well as communication and customer service skills. The course includes performing live bleeds in class and out in the industry, giving you real life experience. Our teachers are all qualified pathology collectors with current industry experience. Entry RequirementsFor Domestic StudentsIHNA has in place admission criteria for courses in its scope as required by its ‘Application and Enrolment Procedure for VET Courses’ to ensure that candidates meet industry requirements. • Applicants are required to be 18 years old and above.• In addition, all applicants are required to have successfully

completed an ACSF test and demonstrate competence working at Level 3 for all indicators to enrol for this qualification (issued within the last 12 months from the time of admission).

• It is also essential for the student to possess basic computer skills.

• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are encouraged to apply.

For International StudentsIHNA has in place admission criteria for courses in its scope as required by its ‘International Students Admission Policy and Procedure’ to ensure that candidates meet industry requirements. Offshore International students who wish to apply for this course must meet the following requirements: • International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

examination (Academic) with a minimum total band score of 5.5 and minimum score of 5.0 in each of the four components of listening, reading, writing and speaking or meets equivalent English language proficiency require-ments including ELICOS at upper intermediate level;

• Applicants are required to be 18 years old and above.• In addition, all applicants are required to have successfully

completed an ACSF test and demonstrate competence working at Level 3 for all indicators to enrol for this qualification (issued within the last 12 months from the time of admission); and

• It is essential for the student to possess basic computer skills.

Physical RequirementsWhile IHNA will work with you to make “reasonable adjustments” in the campus lab and classroom, there are work place practice conditions that occur in the workplace environment that are beyond IHNA’s control. Physical requirements like Strength, Mobility, Hearing, Vision and Communication are necessary to function in the healthcare facility and/or community setting. Students must be able to perform and complete course objectives and requirements with or without reasonable adjustments. Our courses cater to a range of candidates. The candidates are required to be physically fit to manage tasks.If you have a disability or disorder or on any longer medications that will require reasonable adjustments to fulfill these requirements, then please declare in your course application.

Upon successful completion of all the required units of competency, students will be issued a testamur with record of results.

Mode of DeliveryFace to Face On-Campus DeliveryStudents are required to attend 20 hours of classes per week including simulation based assessment and professional experience placements.

Blended Delivery20 contact hours per week will be delivered through synchronised Online learning which includes on- campus simulation based training and Professional experience placement.

Besides the above structured learning, students are advised that they will be required to do approximate 10 hours per week of unstructured learning. The blended delivery mode is only available to domestic students on selected campuses and subject to eligibility.Students must meet additional requirements for Professional Experience Placements as required such as a clear police check,working with children check & immunisations.*Please call your respective campus location for more details
