This is followed by lunch. We then depart for the valley of 1000 hills, for a visit to the Assegai Safari Park, for a guided tour of the crocodile enclosures, and the smnake collection. The Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve is renownedfor its conservation efforts in saving the white rhino extinction. Early morning departure from Durban and travel approximately 3 hours to the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve. Spend the day searching for the Big Five and various other game species. Depart the park by 14h00 to return to Durban in the late afternoon. Return to the hotel in the afternoon. For the best of Zulu Culture, Shakaland is a must. We drive north through sugar cane plantations and various hsitorical landmarks to our destination “Shakaland”. Thrill to the rhythm of the drums as the Zulu’s give you an amazing demonstration of traditional dances. You will learn about Zulu customs and lifestyles, and have an opportunity to taste zulu beer. For lunch, you can enjoy a hot or cold buffet which includes traditional zulu food. Hand- crafted goods and souvenirs are available to buy. After lunch we visit the superb Dlinza forest at Eshowe Our next stop will be the Inanda Heritage Sites of Mahatma Gandhi’s Phoenix settlement, John Dube’s Ohlange Institute the Shembe Church and the Inanda Seminary School. Driving through Pietermaritzburg we head forDrakensburg range, we arrive at Giant’s Castlea world heritage site for a half hour easy walkto see the bushman paintings, whilst seeingincredible scenery and hopefully the rare bearded vulture amoungst other small game species.

After lunch, we make a scenic trip back to Durban via the Midlands Meander route with its many craft and farmers markets and HowickFalls.

We will travel through to Underberg where wetransfer into a 4x4 vehicle for a trip up famousSani Pass to the top of the drakensberg and into Lesotho where we meet these mountain people living in a very harsh land. We will visit Sani TopChalet which is one of the most isolated pubsin Africa.

Relive the horror of the two most famous Anglo-Zulu war battles with a specialist Battlefield guide.
