Hochschule Koblenz Dates and Facts The University The Koblenz University of Applied Sciences is located on the beautiful river Rhine, halfway between the cities Cologne and Mainz. The UNESCO World Heritage “Mittelrhein“ (Middle Rhine) is one of the warmest and driest regions of central Europe and attracts millions of visitors from all over the world every year. The Hochschule Koblenz was founded in 1996, today around 9000 students attend the growing University. The city of Koblenz has a lot to offer. Besides numerous bars and restaurants in the historic old town, the many surrounding castles at the Rhine and Mosel also are worth a visit. For more athletic activities are the trails along the rivers a great opportunity for hiking or bike tours. Starting summer 2020 there will be three certificated programs (30 ECTS/half academic year): · International Business · Intercultural Behaviour · Marketing Fees There are no tuition fees, only a semester contribution of approx. € 230 − 245 for the whole semester, including € 15 for the enrollment. Academic year Summer semester: Usually from mid of March until mid of July (exam period included). Winter semester: Usually from mid of September until end of January (exam period included). Exam period Three weeks after lecture time. There will be a reading week between lectures and start of exam period for preperation and questions. Study review Usually exams at the end of a course, but presentations or projects during the course are also possible, depending on the course. Orientation period Before the beginning of each semester, the Koblenz University of Applied Sciences offers an orientation week for exchange students. During this week, you will enroll at the university and together with your mentor fulfill all the necessary requirements such as becoming registered with the public authorities, opening a bank account, and taking out health and liability insurance. In addition, you will meet with you department coordinator to put together a class schedule and if necessary adjust your Learning Agreement. Furthermore, the International Office will organize a German crash course and your mentors will show you the campus and city.

Application forms

Exchange students first need to apply to their home university. Further information can be obtained at the International Office at your university. After you have been selected for the exchange program by your university, you may apply to the Koblenz University of Applied Sciences.

Please fill out the following forms:

• Learning Agreement for EU students or the Learning Agreement for Non-EU students

• Student Application Form

Please send the completed forms together with a transcript of records:

Deadlines The application deadlines for the exchange program are December 15 for the following summer semester and June 15 for the following winter semester.

German Courses For the orientation week, the International Office organizes a German A1/A2 and B1/B2 crash course for international students. There is also offered a German course for Incomings once a week during the semester with different levels (A1-C2).

Accommodation Student dormitories € 181 up to € 350, depending on size and type of room. Private house market: around € 300 – 350 per month for a shared room. Appartments might be around the same rent.

Working in Koblenz

Students who are not from the EU are allowed to work 120 full days or 240 half days per year. http://www.internationale-studierende.de/en/prepare_your_studies/financing/jobbing/

Liability and health insurance

Upon arrival in Koblenz, you must purchase health insurance. The German health insurance compa-nies offer students an insurance rate of about € 80 a month. The insurance covers all costs for basic check-ups, medical treatments, and hospitalizations. It also covers most of the costs for prescribed medication. Liability insurance costs about € 7 a month and we highly recommend having it.
