Stress
• Ends in vowel, n, or s: stress on second last syllable– camino, estrella, hablan (road, star, they speak)
• Ends in anything else: stress on last syllable– querer, ciudad (to want, city)
Stress
• In Spanish, an accent on a vowel (á, é, í, ó, ú) tells you where the stress goes– camino (street)– caminó (he/she walked)
• Sometimes an accent clarifies the meaning of a word, even if the pronunciation is identical– si (if) sí (yes)– el (the) él (he)
